I was just talking with someone about who would be the epitome of Northern Fancy Dance and who would be the epitome of Southern Fancy Dance? In the modern era I think Chico Her Many Horses would be a good representive of the North and the late Billy McClellan would be a good representative of the South.
The reason I chose these two is that I have heard other fancy dancers say, "we're just dancing for second and third" when these two dancers were there. I know everyone will have their own opinions. A lot will have to do with the age of those posting. Who would you say were the epitome of Northern and Southern Fancy Dancing? (One for each please!)

yote, How 'bout Nooooooothurn? Woogie is a good person to epitomize saaaathurn. Maybe these fancy dancers should be broken down into eras or time periods. Woogie would be great for the sixties, early 70s.

Hmmmm? Matter of fact I remember back to The Turtle Powwow @ da Falls in NY......There was a dancer who was singing with Red Earth....This was 1985! Blue rig with yellow n white....His face was painted......He was the epitome of Fancy Naaaaa Thurn! Can't remember his name? You were there.....Singing with Brave Scout.....I think?
Some others who pop in my mind.....Sonny Brown Eyes.....Norman Roach..........Rick Cleveland.......... Theres a book or magazine.....I used to try my best to steal it from my older bro....LOL! I think it had something to do with Whispering Wind Magazine, anyway it was chock full of Fancy dancers......Goot ones.....Think Tommy White Cloud put it together.... Now heres a good question.....Who can point out the distinct differences in the SAAAAA Thurn and NAAAAA thurn styles....? Who can kick it in both? The late Darryl Jack would tear it up..... |

They Need To Call It Something Else Instead Of Northern And Southern... Now Days You Can't Really Tell A Southern Dancer From A Northern One... Its Just A Preference Of Song Now...
You Got Dancers In Southern Who Have No Business... Spinning, Kicking, Flipping, Etc.. Etc... But Somehow They Still Win... ...At Least At The Casino Powwows LOL They Should Start Calling It Old Style And Contemporary Instead... Or Something... |
