Whose moves would you imitate?

Boozhoo niji,

I had a lot of time to think on this at DNA this weekend, and thought it would make a good thread. It seems like it might be a little touchy but here goes anyway.

If there was a dancer that had moves and technique that you liked and could imitate, who would that be?

For me there are probably a couple, but one sticks out right now. At DNA I got the pleasure of watching Dwight White Buffalo dance, and I noticed something. We share pretty much the same basic ground work. I have never met the man before yesterday, not even seen him dance in video or anything, but a lot of the moves that I do when I dance, he does, except smoother.

I am still trying to work out going between one trick and another, and I think I just about have it, kinda starting one step before finishing the next. But Dwight makes it look so easy. I also saw him do a couple of things, like throw his spinner into the air and catch it. I am not sure if I could do that or not, right now I tie mine around my wrists so I dont drop them, the clumsy oaf that I am.

Someone else I enjoy watching is Michael Roberts. He has a pretty good style that is totally different than mine. If I had to do something different, I would probably adopt a couple of his techniques.

Derek

Ok I am sensing some hostilities here, so let me rephrase this. I didn't say that I would copy someone elses moves. I guess what I should have said was, who are you most impressed by because of their technique and style?

I agree...I think to an extent all dancers use each others moves. But part of the appeal is being original. A different look, a different style. If everyone looked the same and danced the same...there would be no need to judge any of them.

Lightbulb C'mon you got caught....But at least your honest!

Hey....everyone likes to think about emulating a champion dancer....If folks wanna beat you up about it....Well their full of chit! Straight up! Cause there sure ain't nothing wrong with thinking about it.....Doing it, well that might get a lil touchy.....I see it all the time though...If ya think about it though....Coming up with your very own while "investigating" someone elses moves isn't all that bad.....Remember some of the "signature" moves just like clothes..... hand me downs.....What counts is you like to dance and those dancers inspired you....Thats what its all about....Not the I Me My syndrome.....
