Can anyone share any information on mirror boards? Is there a functional purpose behind them? When did they become popular hand items? Is there a notable difference between the mirror boards used by northern traditional and southern straight dancers?

I've noticed that in my experience I'm seeing fewer and fewer mirror boards being carried by straight dancers. It seems that the tail stick or dance stick is replacing it. Is that true out west as well?

I would appreciate any info you may see fit to share.

Thanks!

Saturday, October 24. Long time straight dancer, Bill Hudson, was honored at the Roy Track Mesa Powwow by the family of fellow dancer, Gary Begay, and friends. It was a total surprise for Hudson who was joined by his wife, Linda, and many friends during his special song. Following that, a straight dance special contest was held, and there was a giveaway.

Bill Hudson is well known in the powwow circuit, especially in the Southwestern U.S. Hudson has negotiated with the Mesa city officials for the past 15 years or more, so that their powwow could be held at the Pioneer Park. He is presently in the incipient stage of trying to get a not-for-profit group organized that would help to fund the education of young Indians wanting to be trained in the field of medicine.

Should I polish my silver before putting it up? Should I wait until right before a dance? Should I polish and then put in a plastic bag?

I just got two tubes of Simichrome Polish and I am ready to go.
