I attended MA 2009 this weekend and must say what a disappointment that pow wow has become. To start, they advertised a $12 admission and it turned out to be $15.25 per day admission. They get dancers to be part of the Friday night music award show and they get 100 points to do that. Question: What does that have to do with the contest? NOT FAIR to people who travel to pow wow and dance their hearts out but they are already 100 points behind. Pow wow was totally boring this year... nothing special to it. However, they had Johnathon Windy Boy there as head singing judge, yet he and Haystack haven't been in territory for years but they didn't even get him to say a word or take a few minutes as MC... he is a great MC but not once did they acknowledge that. At the end of the pow wow, there was a rumour that they screwed up on the tabulating... open books??? Anyone want to check that out? And the final slap: Johnathon Windy Boy got screwed on pay. He had to rearrange travel arrangements and it cost them an additional $1,000, so the pow wow committee decided to take it out of his honorarium. How rude to treat a pow wow legend in this disrespectful manner. Manito ahbee should be ashamed of themselves! Any comments?

I was only there for a few hours so I wasn't able to see as much dancing as I would have liked. I enjoyed the dancing, saw some kick-a** regalia, checked out some of the vendors. Overall, it was pretty good.

One complaint - I had the absolute worst frybread and Navajo taco that I have ever put in my mouth! I don't remember the name of the vendor, but I'll remember the logo - and never eat there again! It was like they forgot all their spices, and then rinsed all the juice off of the beans so that everything had about as much taste as cardboard.

Other than that, had a great time!

For mine, my husband is an EMT and works the medic stuff for most of the powwows we know. This girl was epileptic and took meds for seizures. Well she forgot her meds and started having a seizure and my husband was getting ready to call an ambulance when this guy who was a "shaman" (self proclaimed) walked over to her, put oil on his fingers and shoved it up her nose. He then grabbed her head with both hands and literally (I'm not exagerating here) said, "You are healed. You will have no more seizures." Would you believe this girl refused to go to the hospital? About three hours later, she had another seizure and he called 911. Don't ya love the crazy white wannabes? :idiot:
