heller, your thoughts?

No matter how true or untrue the plot line was, it seems to me that the main image portrayed of skins is "woo hoo, kill the white folks and take their women!"

I agree with you. I watched the first part on Sunday night really hoping to see a good story. However, I was disappointed with the portrayal of the Indians as violent and cruel. More Hollywood stereotypes....I did not watch the rest of the miniseries.

I thought the story was lame....I watched it all...guess after "Lonesome Dove" , which I thought was very good , I expected a better show ! I thought the actors spent a lot of time not knowing what to say....seemed like dead areas in the plot....
as far as the portrayal of the Comanches....well that's typical of historys portayal of all indian people....history written by the victor.I doubt that will ever change.

I never got to the Indians. I watched about 10 minutes of it and thought that the acting sucked. I changed channels before it got to showing any Indians.

Yeah I felt the acting was a little painful. Seems like Adam was fighting his own character (but hey, every artist has his or her "rent" jobs. Gotta pay the rent, so you play the part).
The implications on race and culture were no where near subtle. The message was "Texas will be paradise once she is rid of Mexicans and Indians." Well, I guess it's paradise lost, because we're still here!

Oh and if another white woman was "ruined" I was going to puke. "Don't touch me Hoss, I's ruined." "Don't look at me Slim, I's ruined." And then, when Long Bill hung himself, that just took the cake for me.

Wes Studie was a hoot though. I loved when he gave Adam the permission to kill old dude and then came back with, "why are you still here?"

I didn't get to watch all of it...........kind of got bored with the first part. But I LOVE Wes Studi..........so what I saw of him looked pretty good!!!

Hey, Homalosa.....you going to be out at Greenville this weekend? We're going.......I'm still getting over the crud, but still plan on going.
We'll see you there if you can make it!

oh dang, thanks for reminding me. i forgot all about last year. if it's not too cold (yeah right) I'll try to be there. I've been on the mend too, but need to dance.

I tried to watch it but I fell asleep. I want to see it though. And I'm not surprised by what you all say because as long as I can remember, Indians are always shown as violent and ready to kill the "innocent" manifest destiny seeker.
