Need some help

I barely started beading. Most of my flat stich and applique bead work doesnt come out nice and flat. What are some suggestions you pro beaders have?I mostly use the crib cloth to bead on. What am I doing wrong? Alot of it happens when I do big pieces or background filing!

Bead and bead and bead and bead.

And don't scrunch your beads together. They need elbow room. Just imagine little beady elbows and give them wiggle room. They sew 'em down real tight.

If your crib cloth is buckling up, put some good old brown paper bag behind it to stabilize it.

Have at it, Blackbear. I'm glad you liked it!

And I meant to say, THEN sew 'em down real tight. Geez, it was a long day yesterday.

kiiyaaniiasdzaa. Blackbear is right her Intro to Applique thread is awesome. Not only are there alot of good hints, but a lot of people asked questions you are probally wondering about yourself. I know I was one of those people asking plenty of questions!!!!!!!!

Surfed to hard !

Maybe someone could help with this. While surfing beading sites and links and MORE links I saw a light yellow or pale beige choker, that fit on top like a collar, had netting to fall down the neck, then a huge loom-like center peice so that the whole piece covered the neck to the shoulders, the design was butterflies in pale victorian colors....yes, with fringe.
It may have been on a book cover...it had some other beaded peices around it. Saw it and have not been able to get it out of my mind. Didn't think to bookmark it cause I'm not that big a fan of butterflies. But now my brain has caught up to my fingers It is a style that could be adapted to another motif and I'm going nuts.....
Please tell me someone else has seen this picture.
Thank You

Yikes..without seeing it I don't think i can help you much.. it did'nt happen to be one of Barbara Elbe's designs did it? It certainly sounds like one of her creations.

Rechecked her site as that was one of the hundreds I whipped thru during one of my bead-viewing spasms.....Sigh....
Thank you for answering tho, really appreciated the tutorial on the beaver medallion you posted.
Maybe you can help with a ongoing problem
Q#2: where can I find brain-tanned leather for sale ???? I have tried for years to sew onto leather and not only does it tear my hands up, but looks outstandingly bad. Was told a few years ago to get the brain-tanned, but unless I do it myself it doesn't appear to be available. Have looked on the www. but had no luck and even tried to get a taxidermist to do one for me with no luck.....

Sewing on leather?? Ew, yuck, puh, puh!! ;)

My cousin sells braintanned buckskin at her store. Other than going straight to the tanner, this is the only place I can think of for some good quality stuff.
Here's her website: http://www.ancientwayswest.com/index.html

Even tho she doesn't have supplies listed, you can contact her and see what she has available. Expect to pay $100 - $150 for a whole hide, but they have smaller pieces sometimes for much less.

But I encourage everybody to check out her website. Her store is just as beautiful!! If you're every driving thru WYO you gotta stop by!
