wants to learn peyote stitch

i need some help...i wanna learn the peyote stitch...i have lotsa experiance doing beadwork...im interested in stitching a small diameter stick to larger ones...my question is...is there anyway someone can explain it and maybe draw a simple diagram...my email addy is injunboy00@yahoo.com...or if possible lets do it here...maybe others wanna learn too..

Another thing would be the Full Circle video about bead in gourd/peyote stitch.

The Full Circle video is excellent. It really helped me. The hardest part is starting the first row and designing your pattern. I made my own template to color in designs, if you want a copy I can email it to you.

I have to reccommend the Full Circle video as well. It does a nice job of showing the technique and giving ideas as well. The one thing it doesn't cover (I don't think) is expanding the beadwork, like on a fan handle. Hope this helps.

Let me recommend you check out my book "Beading in the Native American Tradition." I think I have done good job of explaining this stitch in this book.

All things aside his book is excellent.

Though I do have to dissagree with your statement about the total # of beads to encompass the piece needing to be divisible by 6 in the 3 bead gourd stitch section. Six is a preferred number to work with due to the large # of designs that can be created but as long as the # is divisible by 3 (which of course is manditory) and the total of the third that is pulled off isn't a prime #, there are still many designs that can be put into a piece.

Other than that your book is kick!

I agree with you about the number of designs that can be done with a number divisible by 6 or 3 however remember that in a book of this design it must be understandable to the masses. I always prefer to do beadwork bases around the number six. The spacing of the beads around the object will at times dictate the number of beads one works with. Hope the book gets folks to doing beadwork......that is goal. Details on how any particular stitch maybe excuted can be debated by anyone picking up a needle. I am sure there are a number of technical aspects in this book that could be debated on all fronts. The major ideal is to spur folks into action GET SOMETHING BEADED!!!!
