rosette pattern problem

ok... i need a rosette pattern for a barette. i need it to have a cherokee rosee on it but i can;t figure out how to make one or where to find one.... the cherokee rose is a five petaled flower that is all i need. any help? THANKS!

Have you tried putting cherokee rose into your web browser and see if you can come up with a picture of one? Then you could print it off...use a circle template to draw around it (after you make it the size you want) and then glue it to your index card or transfer it to leather or whatever you are beading on and then just bead it!!! Does'nt even have to be a circle template...just copy the rose and then draw whatever shape you want around it.

i feel like and idoit now... LOL thanks. Oh i bought that fun foam today for a 8and a half by 11 inch sheet for 39 cents. it can in SO many colors. i can;t wait till i start beading my crown!

okay I just saw that you are using foamie board...just to let you know, you need to be careful with that. I used some from walmart in aug. to bead some rosettes for my sister, and if you pull the thread too hard, the foam will rip. It was kind of irritating. But it does make a nice backing. I backed a necklace for myself with it. Good luck!

It's kinda hard to find but, I like to bead on extra-heavy weight Pellon. Been beading for more than 20 years now and that's what works best, I've found.

Yeah I have had that happen only once with pulling the thread thru..but you really should'nt have to pull that hard...and don't use the thinnest foam they have either..they do come in varying millimeter thicknesses. But most things that are easy to bead on will tear or go right through. The first time I used an index card I ripped it right through several times..just don't pull too hard LOL!!! My biggest suggestion though with the fun foam...don't get the glue backed stuff..it just collects on the needle and thread and becomes quite a hassle.
No problem with the suggestion there..I get frustrated myself once in awhile and have to ask for suggestions too.

I use the pellon, too. It's always worked well. I usually buy it at Joann's. It is on bolts, by the yard, look where the interfacings are. Usually on the end of the cutting counter. Ask one of the women for it, they will know. ;)

so far it holds up very well and does'nt break down. I can't see it getting brittle but time will tell. My crown has been holding up beautifully for two years now with no sign of breakdown or inflexibility or even any wear. Sweat doe'snt seem to effect it which is good, and I would imagine it can be spot washed.

OK, maybe I'll experiment with some of that fun foam stuff. I'll see if JoAnn's has any.

Pellon is a brand name yet there are 2 or 3 other companies that make a similar product. Not every store carries the heavyweight. In that case, you can use a double layer of the thinner weight. Pellon is also nice because you can color the white background with markers or colored pencils if you wish.

Czechy, are you talking about the loom pattern? if so yes.... Suzillia was kind enough to send me like 5 pages of patterns and info on edge beading. If she is reading this THANKS! but for the rosette i will just applique it.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what design to use for the top of the crown? i mean the part that sticks up, for lack of a better term.

Yes, I'm here and saw your comment, Kelli. It was no problem to help. Once you accumulate knowledge, then it is only right to share it with people who want to learn. I just went through that with a person who danced for the first time at a powwow I went this past weekend.

As for what to bead on, nobody has brought up the starched felt that's on the market. (It can be found at Michaels craft stores & is available in different colors.) That stuff is great for beading on. I used it for the beadwork on my dance purse and for a big rossette I made. If you have a pattern to tack down, glue sticks are great to use.

Like Waleli, I also bead on heavy Pellon. One thing I like about it is that its nonwoven and holds tiny stitches quite well. Its also made of 100% spun polyester and is chemically inert. As such, it will not degrade over time like index cards will. I've never tried the fun foam stuff and I'm curious about it. How well does it hold up? Will it dry out and get brittle as it ages?
