Ok I am really struggling with my regalia . So let me put this out here an maybe someone will give me some honest real help an Ideas .
I am A USMC VET . I am wanting to bring that into my regalia . The problem issssssss. I cant draw very well an everything I seem to draw an place is off center or I just cant seem to get the points an all in order . I found 3 beautiful patches this weekend that I would like to use 2 of them I have put on diaper padding an going to make one a hair tie (cuz I wear one braid) The other I am going to make into a scarf tie ( I wear a USMC scarf around my neck cuz I wear buckskin) Now the 3rd patch is beautifullllllll its a ACE of spades with United States Marines around the outside with the american flag an USMC Flag ... has 3 points with yellow candle like flames . Now my idea was to out line the flames an the patch but I still need to cover the back part of the Yoke ... any ideas??? I was named Queen Vet ...yeah I need a crown ..well This is the problem .. I cant draw ...so now if someone will tell me how to measure the crown lay it out so I can get this sucker in center an what I should put on this crown ( I dont want a pope crown or burger king lookin thing ) I just want simple to rep all those vets in the proper way ... I have till April now for the first pow wow's of 2004 to start ... I was trying to have it done for NOV 11th that is not going to happen . I have no idea what to put on it .. Thank goodness I dont have to wear a sash ..last thing I need is one more thing to put on before I go out. Yes I am older than most ppl in the circle these days , but my heart is still 21 so I am fighting with my young side . Thanks in advance ... An I really am asking for true help ..not jokes K! I do not dance Comp so thats not a prob . As I have said before I go in for grand entry an honor songs (my hip an knees can only take two rounds an I am done). Those of you that have met me face to face know my tude... :D waits! |

Something that may help with the drawing is if you have a scanner you can scan stuff and then print it on the iron on things. Then you can use that as you pattern to bead by. If you don't have access to the scanner and printer, you can go to a t-shirt place and have them make you an iron on. Not sure how much it would be. That's what I'm thinking about doing when I go to bead my apron. I can draw some, but it would be easier to use an iron on.

ok.. here is what i think would help you!
For the crown, use the material called fun foam. They usually have it at walmart, and other craft stores. It is a foam material that you can get in different thicknesses and is REALLY cheap running about .25-.50 cents a sheet. you would probably need atleast 2 sheets. Now. what you need to do is measure your head. find out what the size is and then deside how you are going to close the crown in the back. I like you use elastic with a beaded rosette covering it. If you are using elastic i would subtract about an inch and a half from the measurement of your head so it will fit snug. the inch and a half that you subtracted the elastic will fill that in. Next, decide if you want a fully beaded crown or not. I like the ones that arent fully beaded becuase it is quicker to make and i think that they are prettier. then deside on a pattern. Unfortunately if you use the fun foam you can't iron on the pattern it will melt it...... So the way i do it is i transfer the pattern onto wax paper cut it out and then cut out pieces of the pattern as needed to fill in the design. That is the only way i know how..... BUT ASK BLACK BEAR! she did a tutorial way back on crown making... SHE IS WONDERFULL AT THEM! maybe she will have it saved on her computer still... If not i am positve that she can still help you! If all else fails someone on this board can make one for ya but trust me it isnt that hard! Finally, spottedeagle, DANG i never even thought of the iron on stuff! can you use that on leather... I dunno i have never tried it. I hope this helps if you have anymore questions just ask! ~Kelli

Yeah Black Bear an Spotted Eagle have helped me allot . Its just that my buck skin is so pretty I dont want to mess her up . So I thought doing the yoke would be safer.
My grand daughter made me a yoke with cowies on it I wore it this weekend but I wont ever tell her I sure got tired of chasing it around my neck lol ..Its pretty tho an will wear it when I know she is coming to a pow wow(at least for one entrance ) lol |

Well If I don't cut out the main shapes for the pattern (which most of the time I don't LOL) I use a light colored gel pen to draw on the design....carefully........ or a chalk pencil, or depending on the material and it's color, one of those marking pens for sewing that evaporates over time with air exposure. But if it's taking you a long time to bead, you will want to go over your pattern with that pen daily...just so it does'nt fade away before you are done.

Actually no.. I would have never thought about that? But I'm rather messy sometimes so I think I will stick with the white chalk marking pencil LOL and the white gel pen.. the gel pen works awesome.. but you have to make sure you bead over the mark....could be embarrassing otherwise.

I havent actually tried the flour/water paste with a stick, had heard of it used and was just wondering if anyone else had used it. I just go freehand on black velvet and keep my beading fingers crossed. The times I've used flour for cooking, like making pasta, i usually end up wearing most of it, the other parts wind up all over the kitchen! :)
