Question Beaded Tenni Shoes

Is anyone familiar with doing beadwork on Tennis shoes? you know like the cheap 3 buck pair from walmart?
I tried but my needle just won't go near the toes...the sides go just fine...
Any tips, tricks, hints? Or anyone that has done it??
thanks

Oh my gosh! I can't believe there is actually a thread on beaded shoes. Even more amazing, I actually have photos of a pair I did several years ago for a Comanche woman in Okla. Don't anyone dare ask me to make another pair though.

I can't tell you how I did it, cause I don't remember. I just figured it out as I went along. Be patient! That's the best I can tell you.

well looks like you started at the bottom and worked your way up... lazy stitch, so do you remember if you put the needle all the way through or just partly through like you do with buckskin?

I think I did start with the bottom row all the way around then worked up. I went all the way through the canvas. The difficult thing about the bottom row is that the canvas upper is attached to the sole with a rubbery material. I actually went through the rubbery shhhhhhhh-tuff with a 12/o sharps needle.

Like I said earlier, patience!
