Bustles
Yes, I use the white buckskin and horsehair at the end of the major plumes in bustles. I was just suggesting to the person who was looking for "extra shine" on a contemporary rig that he ALSO add the sequens in line above the leather. I've also seen this done on ladies fans and it looks real good without being conspictious.
PS I'm 65 and retired, but how is it that you are able to respond so promptly? |

I like both the single and double row bustles. Some of the double row bustles that have the "bird nest" in the center look pretty nice also.
I think the key to the bustle (other than its shape) is the way it moves. The centerpiece should be designed and mounted to allow the bustle to swing and move with the dancer without the bustle collapsing in on itself. The centerpiece should also not be so tight that it restricts the movement of the bustle. I once saw a double row bustle where the outside row was mature golden eagle feathers (white spots and horsehair trimmed) and the inner row was red tail hawk. The inner row was trimmed with eagle fluffs. It was nice!!! Another good feature of the bustle is nice yarnwork or other decoration of the quills. Thats my $0.02 worth. Brad |
