chemika is on a distinguished road
big spender

A grass dancer e-mailed me . He wants harness, belt, cuffs , side drops fully beaded . All for $200.00! I thought I would post it. He is not joking. If any one wants to talk to him; dragon@jam21.net. Maybe someone can teach him loom work?

Queen Bee is an unknown quantity at this point
So if you are a beader how do you set a good price and if you are a buyer how do you offer a fair price.

(this is my first post! :) )

Good question.

For sellers: First you have to guage your work, is it the best stuff out there-average-of kinda beginnerish. Look at what other people are charging and go from there. It also depends on your attitude toward selling stuff. Some people get low prices for their wares just because they like doing it and aren't out to get rich. Other people rely on craftwork as a main source of income, their prices tend to be a little higher. And some people have different prices for close friends and family than the general public.

I sold my first piece of beadwork when I was 17yr old. Sold it for $60, now the same piece I sell for close to $200 (and people still tell me to up my prices)

For buyers: First thing, know your stuff. If you try to buy (say) a pair of moccasins for the first time and don't know how their made, chances are you will get a bad pair. If you have owned several pair and understand the construction and the beadwork techniques you will be sure to buy a comportable pair that will hold up and is nicely decorated. When in doubt ask someone who does know about what you are buying.

The Short of it is, if you like it and it does something for you, and you can affort it, buy it and enjoy it.

Hope this helps

Out of curiosity Beadman, what was your first peice? My first piece is a choker and I still have it. But the first piece I sold was a beadnetted necklace that tons of people up here make now.

Is that blackmail?:D
I'll give you anything you want, but don't make me show you my first piece of beadwork, holy cow! I was only 13 and my mother still has it.

I did several pieces before I sold anything. I couldn't believe that someone would actually pay me for beadwork.

Lord does that sound familiar...LMAO

I or my mom still have most every one of my first pieces in all sorts of different stlyes of beadwork and other crafts. In fact I just last night dug out the first thing i ever sewed on a machine to show my wife. Lord my mom came home and about freeked out when she I was using her machine to put together a ribbon shirt out of some keen material I had been given. She was sure that old kenmore of hers would never work again after I got through with it...but it was just fine and she still has it today. About a year later I swapped a guy a 9" kids roach for a sewing machine and the rest is history...LMAO!

wow. lol If it's a friend or someone I know that's trying to do well, I'll hook em up for the cost of supplies, a trade, or for free (pending on the situation and all)..... That's just the way I am.

I heard of a lady that did decent work at a decent price for some friends but when I went to her she was trying to charge me over 7 times as much. That got me to making my own things. Don't get me wrong.... I understand the concept of making money but don't try to get rent out of me. That's just wrong.

LOL my first piece was a hair barrette the size of a belt buckle. :o It was very pretty...... so much so that someone stole it. MAN I still haven't figured out how I edge beaded it without a backing.
