Need help with Women's Breastplate?
I am going to make a Southern style breast plate and would like some advice. What do you Ladies use to string your beads on?
Safe journey where ever it may take you.

Thanks for the explanation. I was also told you can use sinew but I wandered about it stretching after awhile. I had a choker which was made with sinew and found it stetched.

go to your nearest fishing store [walmart ,target etc] and get spider wire fishing line it works the best i used a plastic cutting board cut into 1/4 strips to make the spacers, makes it a little stiffer don't have as big a sag that way

I saw spiderwire the other day and was going to buy it. I have used beadalon for chokers, but that doesn't seem strong enough for a breastplate. There is a lot of spiderwire on that spool too! How do you cut the cutting board? Is it that white plastic cutting board?

Tigertail is a braided steel wire with a clear nylon plastic coating over it to help prevent it from rusting. Its great for breastplates, especially for heavy bone ones. You can't really knot it and may have to use crimp beads instead. You can find tigertail at any place that sells jewelry supplies. It comes in different thicknesses or gauges. Choose one of the thicker ones. Be careful when working with it so it does not kink.
I once used doubled imitation sinew for a breastplate and don't recommend it. It stretched over time. I have not used fishing line but there too, use a heavy one. I would think this stuff would also stretch over time, depending on what it is made of. |

I totally agree about the sinew. I tried to do things the old way and found it does not always work. The first time I wore my breastplate was in very warm weather and it did not take long at all for it to start stretching. So I actiually restrung it with good old kite string has been good so far.
