I've had dresses made from satin, corderoy, velvet, velveteen, wool, and cotton. I like my cotton dresses the best, because they are "cool" to wear.

neegee is on a distinguished road
My gookum always wore small print flowers on her dress shirts.
In the North the ladies used to wear their own homemade clothing. It was bright colors, small prints with rick-rack. I can just see my gookum in her moccasins drinking tea watching "Edge of night." She didn't even know what they were saying...sweet memories.

I like to use cotton also, a nice cotton, I only ever use broadcloth for lining. I also use velveteen, but not the whole outfit, just parts where I'm putting floral beadwork (especially for my Ojibway friends.)

Anywhere that I'm beading I back with interface.

I also usually line the bodice (ribbon dress style but not sleves) or the yoke (which ever style your doing) broadcloth like I said & I either line the skirt or make an underskirt, like a slip but longer with lots of ribbon & rickrack etc.

Good luck with your dress. I'm sure you'll enjoy all the choices of cottons, I do, I just love going into the fabric store & wondering what I'll use this time. I have used the floral prints they are very nice but I also use the other prints. I used lots with matalic stars last year. Some lovely tiedyes & batics. & one of my favorites had a birchbark tree pattern on a soft blue, very pretty.
