Should princess's and head lady dancers be allowed to contest?
Is this an unfair advantage to other dancers? Is it tacky?

No on Head Lady (chances are she'll be judging a lot of the catagories anyways). Yes on VISITING Princesses (they're only representing their pow wow-no crown during contesting, its not a popularity contest!)
If they contest, it not only is an unfair, it showes that they are cheep, greety, and do not appriciate the pow wow committee for selecting them. |

What about a princess who represents the powwow? Have you ever seen one compete at her own powwow?

It is not fair if the head lady does, but some of the time the princesses' may want to contest. Besides most of the time when a princess contests' they don't place(I know), all of the same people place, all of the time. But no one has to listen to lil ol' me.

I think head dancers shouldnt compete.I was a pow-wow princess before, and i traveled alot to rep my pow-wow and i competed (well, without my crown) and what about Albz. Head dancers compete over there all the time. Do they get an option?

i have been in both situations. when you serve as a part of the head staff at powwow. they usually put you and family up at a hotel and then sometimes they pay you as well.
i myself would never compete while serving as head staff. simply because you probably already recieved some $$$. But the powwow princess on the other hand. I think it is fine to compete as long as it's not at the powwow or tribe your representing. i mean you dont always win. Because the girls usually go somewhere every weekend to represent their tribe. and they want to compete too. |

i think it all depends.. its tacky if the princess of the powwow competes @ her own powwow... but not if shes travelin...and if the head dancers are head 4 the whole weekend they shouldnt...but if the head dancers change each day or whatever..then its ok...

I agree at least the headstaff should sit out.But the traveling princessse' should be able to. When I was(jr. miss) princess for the sac&foxes' I did not contest at the powwow where I was cronwed, and I did contest at the powwows that I was not on headstaff for or invited to. But most of the contest powwows that did go to, I did compete. I did place but most of the time I did not place.

I don't think Head dancers should compete- I've seen it done, and seen them place and I think thats kinda jus scabby, and not fair to other contestants.
As for Princesses, No, i don't think they should contest at the pow-wow they are representing, but other dances, sure, just take off them banners during yer comp. gurlz. |
