How do you wear your hair
Since we are also talking about barrette's and accessories,
Do you braid your hair up, leave it loose, wear eagles,.... When my hair was longer, i did braid it up, but with it in between now, i may leave it loose and small braid to hold my eagles. What about the rest of you? D |

I almost all the time wear a hair clip, just above my ears, and the rest braided. Never have done a day, where I let it loose, in a heck of a long time, too many tangles.
When I dance, (in the near future) I will wear a beaded crown, hairties, barettes and eagle featers and plumes. |

Myself, I wear mine 1 of 3 ways. Since I have bangs growing out and can't braid my own hair, I eitherfasten my front hair on top with a barrett then split and put 2 braids. Or if I have someone at the pow-wow that can do it I have someone braid my hair. Or If I am short on time and just wnat to make grand entry I do 2 old style braids. I wear my top plumes and have some side flat feathers I wear. I also have my back barrette, two top of braid barrettes, ribbon wraps on my hair, hair ties and my hair fringe!
So ya' alot!! |

braids
I usually corn-row mine into two braids. This year, I'm going to try a trick my friend Vickie showed me to make it easier to put in your spike where you pull your top hair back and secure it, and THEN separate it into two braids from there. Does that make sense? lol
do you guys prefer corn-row, french, or old style braids? I might try something really crazy and do a cobra braid this year. Last year I wore a little hairbow I made to look like a miniature fan, everyone seemed to like it. I might make another one of those this year. Then I wear the fluff and the spike and the ribbon wrap and fringe. Oh, and the back ornament. |

BRAIDS
SHWK0961.....I started braiding my daughters hair with the top pulled back and then splitting the hair into two braids..it works so much better with her plumes and feather.. no fear of it slipping down or out. holds the feather tight...:D

I have to agree with NDNKDZ. That is the easiest way, still looks really nice and you don't have to worry about your plumes falling out!!
AS for how many to weat that is a personal desicion. I wear big plumes in back and some small eagle feathers on the side. About 7 fastned to a barrette!! shw0961: Hello and explain. What are all these braids your talking about? Your getting really fancy and I'm not getting your lingo? Your a hairstylist aren't you? You've got to be to know the names of different braids. I know French and plain, so your beyond me with cobra and spikes. Heck I'm not even sure what a cornrow is! LOL I always thought it was just tight itty bitty french braids!!! Please explain these braids for us hair braid ignorant!!:Idea :21: |

braids and more braids

To be honest with you though, not many people know what a cobra braid is, but my mom used to braid my hair like that. Some people also call it a herringbone, because it reminds you of a herringbone chain. It's done with 4 strands instead of the normal 3, but when you get it done it looks like two strands of hair in the braid...It's really cool looking. Cornrow is kind of slang too I guess, but I don't know what anyone else calls it. It's a french braid done upside down, so that you have a nice clean braid going down the side of your head. Most people with cornrows have them all over their head, but when I do it I just wear two just like I would if I were going to french braid it. Thanks for the tip fancystar and ndnkidz, I guess I'll try the pulling back and then splitting into two braid thing this year. :Chatter |

I wear my hair in french braids when my braider(my lil sis) comes w/ me to the powwow. And I have a barrette that goes on easy w/ french braids. The clips go up and down instead of across. But when she don't come I wear it pulled back then into two braids. I really don't like wearing it like that though. Cause then I can't wear my cool barrette that goes good w/ frenchbraids! Then I wear my ribbons, hairties, shells, and fringe. :D

Hey fancy i finally get the cornrow thing. it's a reverse french braid(well that's what i call it) when you braid backwards or up instead of normal.
I love seeing everyone with the beadwork and barrettes, and all the eagles you can put on, my cousin gave me an eagle for the back and another cousin gave me some plumes to wear also, so really i have three, for me that is enough, i don't know if i could wear more than that, i love things simple. I remember one time tooter braided my hair so tight, my eyes hurt, my scalp got sunburnt, and then i took my hair down( or so i thought)... i've watched a friend of mine braid her daughters hair in shapes of hearts, that was awesome.... |

I also wear mine with the front pulled back and then split into two braids. When I try to wear french braids,my head looks too square! ha ha It is easier for me to braid my hair this way, so I can braid it myself and not have to depend on anyone to braid it for me. Sometimes the time issue is a factor when you are needing to make grand entry. One thing I do for sure, is make sure it is braided and I try never to go into grand entry with a bun or not put together. I don't always accomplish this, but I sure try to always look like I've got it together. Not everyone can wear braids, but as long as you look nice and neat, you will always look presentable.

How in the heck does she do that? I can't even do the french braids right. Don't even ask me to do a reverse. Corn row..... in the garden, maybe. Hopeless, huh? :Cry
