Your location lists Oklahoma. There are pow-wows happening all over Oklahoma in the summer, I'm sure there are some near you. There is Indians Hills this weekend. You should really try to attend some pow wows and just observe. It reads like you just "discovered" your roots and now want to jump in and be Native. Your tribal states Osage, why not learn this side and let you and your daughter start from there. Osage history is rich and it's right there in Oklahoma!

Actually, we have always known that we are Osage but we were raised white I think it could be because both of my parent's were atheist's but they were raised Osage when they grew up. You're right about taking her to Powwow's since we are in the area instead of tape's. When powwow season is over with I need something to practice to. So is there any good Southern Cloth Drum's out there that you can recommend?

Uh? *L

Powwow season never ends in Oklahoma. There are at least 3 powwows in the state, every single weekend - 52 weekends a year!

Ok let me say something here... You have asked alot of questions that have raised alot of eyebrows.... If in fact you are from oklahoma you would know that they have as WhoMe said at least three every single weekend. You can not possibly live in that state and have to ask where there is a powwow and are there any in the non powwow season... I personally think that you are messin with the goot folks here and trying to rile and ruffle. Ok lets say that you are truly sincere and do not have a clue...Why are you getting angry or calling folks who have proved themselves here at pw.com RUDE!!!!! You are a newbie here and instead of reading and learning.. which by the way is the crazy concept here..LOL you are causing yourself grief.. Did it ever occur to you to say in the beginning of your threads that you would appreciate any help you might receive? I personally see nothing humble in your requests and would not stick my neck out to have you call me a name.. so be ready for any flack that you might receive... We here at pw.com are a very friendly bunch and we will help if asked in a proper way. I welcome you to pw.com. Please sit back and read the forums here and in the archives you will learn alot and hopefully in time you will see how we do things around here. Thank you for your time and enjoy the site... :)

Thought so! I would have to say any Southern Drum knows the women's songs though. OK is like the major powwow land in North America.

OMGosh. tsk tsk tsk! :NoNo Not Cool.

I will for one say that WhoMe is far from being rude. I took the time before I began posting on this site to read the forums and the context of the threads involved. Could say that I've educated myself to a certain degree here before I began posting blindly. In my observations, WhoMe posts some interesting issues and raised many interesting topics. I always look forward to his posts!

Okay...not tryin to pick sides er nuthin! But I have always called summer pow wows the beginning of pow wow season. So does that make me stupid in the pow wow area in Oklahoma??? I've been dancin since 4!!! I kinda know what goes on.....but I never considered the little benefits, college, school, or winter pow wows part of the pow wow trail. I don't know many who would travel from far and wide to go to Tulsa Public schools red ribbon dance. *L*

I also didn't know there were at least three dances every weekend in Oklahoma in the winter. I'll have to check those out.
But I digress...........if you honestly want some info about your tribe.....you should be getting in contact with tribal members and talking to them about their ways. There's so many dances the Osages have. It's great. 6 I can think of off the top of my head. I guess what I am saying is....before you just decide to start dancing and making your outfit....get to know the pow wow scene....get to know the music and the people around there. Get to know about Osages. Then worry about the outfil later....when you're ready....you'll know exactly what you need to begin.

Candae Cane:

Like Ojibway Sweetie said, "Oklahoma is like the major powwow land in North America." Oklahoma has the second largest population of Indians in the U.S.

The history of powwow within the state is extremely strong. The men's fancy dance, straight dance, southern women's traditional dances, gourd dance (and 49) all originated in Oklahoma.

There are five local powwow circuits in Oklahoma. There are litterally enough "powwow Indians" in Oklahoma to have 7 powwows within the state on one weekend (4th of July weekend). These local OK powwow circuits are:

1. Southwestern OK
2. Cheyenne-Arapaho
3. North Central OK
4. East and Northeast OK
5. Central OK

Realistically, you will see the same people, families and faces weekend after weekend supporting these local powwow circuits. Periodically, visitors come from out of state to attend many of these local powwows throughout the year.

In the summer months these circuits expand and join to make the large Oklahoma summer powwows.

One good example, of a strong powwow circuit would be the Southwestern Oklahoma circuit that includes the Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, Delaware, Caddo and Wichita tribes. In this circuit is Carnegie. There is a powwow practically every single weekend in Carnegie!

Okay...WhoMe...no need for a history lesson on PowWows...I may be young but not dense. I'm just saying that I call Pow wow season Summertime. I know many others who do the same thing. I dance as well in the winter and some dances are sponsered by tribes as well as other organizations but it's not pow wow "SEASON" to me. Does anyone understand where I'm coming from? I feel my point was missed completely by the breakdown of pow wows and where they o
