Hi I'm new here. My husband is a cherokee man and I have friends who are Apachee/Croix?? (don't think I spelled that right Sorry). My frinds want me to dance with them next time I go see them. They live 6 hours from here. She dances
in a T-dress with leggings and a shawl. I love how the shawl moves, but do woman that wear the tear dress use shawls? Husbands family unfortunatly did not pass on anything with the heritage. Would love to know more.

Well Mrs.Sim..im new to 'pow-wowing' but not new to being tsalagi. My greatest and most pressing suggestion would be..LEARN THE CULTURE!!! First and foremost learn everything u can about ur husbands culture,i think that will answer many many questions for u as to whether u should dance at all,and if u decide to what u should wear etc. Take ur time with it,if u really respect us.

yes the women use shawls... that i know of. when you marry a cherokee man or women, you marry into that culture. Its good that you are trying to learn as you go.

the tear dress is just a recent dress for cherokees(been talked about before on here try to find the other forums not sure what they were called)
anyway we wore jsut simple dresses if you look at our pics from 1900's the tear dress adopted by the western cherokee for one of theirs that was in Miss Indian World - anyway we wore skins before cloth, women wore two piece girls wore one piece dress but for the sake of pow wows we use shawls and fans hope that helps a little
