I'm in the process of making my apron for my choctaw dress and I was wondering if anyone knew how to do the diamond applique work? My dress was made for me but I didn't get an apron. If anyone has an idea could you let me know?

Diamonds,
Yep - here's an easy way to do it. The diamond is mine too. :) Get some seam binding tape, available in beaucoup colors and about a yard of fabric to match it. I use just $2 a yard broadcloth. Lay out your apron and place the tape on it to make 2 parallel lines, leaving space in the middle for the <>'s. Sew these down. Now, cut out a butt load of <>'s from the cloth remembering to cut a bit bigger than they actually will be cuz you have to fold them over to finish the edges. TIP: If you find folding them over hard, try stitching a line 1/4" inside the outside edge of the diamond. They'll fold right over, like magic, on the seam line. Press the diamonds and place them inside the lines and sew down. You can use the same seam binding to edge the ruffle on the bottom too. Hope this helps, Jana PS: Know of anyone who can bead me a new collar? My cat, ah, 'discovered' mine recently. |

Yeah - I know I SHOULD do it myself, but I don't want to. hahahaha.
The Chata website for the Bakersfield bunch has a pretty good instruction page for collars. I mean, I can still wear mine. I sort of super glued the kitty hole so the beads won't ravel. And I can place it under my hair so you really won't see it I think. And if you're that close to see it, you better be my husband. :) |

Chahta Apron
Diamond, I sent you a em, but the Okla Chahta website has an good picture of the dress and apron.
Also, I found a book called the Choctaw Dress by Ellen Scott that has all the details and the history of the dress. Hope this helps. I need help with finding Choctaw Designs for a T-dress. |

Hey - if you look under the Princess link on www.oklachata.org, there is a couple pics of some young ladies in pretty cool dresses with some intricate designs. You might get some ideas from that for the t-dress, sort of mix and match em' maybe?

Thank you everyone who responded. All the info is very helpful. Now I just gotta try and see how it turns out. Owlkillerwoman...I just so happen to make collar necklaces. The liason for Okal Chahta showed me how since I'm running for princess this year. I made one for me and one for the raffle at the gathering this year.

Hey Laryn,
That's great - you running for Princess. Good luck. Is the Okla Chata lady Ms. Harrison by any chance? I have a number for her I think. Tell ya what, if you want to make me a new silver edged in red collar, I'll buy a bunch of raffle tickets from you :) Jana |

Hey Jana~
It is mrs. Harrison. She's a super nice lady. Thanks for the offer on the tickets but I have to turn them in tomorrow. I can still make you a necklace. I'm not quite sure what you mean silver edged in red. Do you want me to use silver bugle beads and red seed beads? Is your made with bugle beads or just all seed beads? Laryn
