dwnsouthndn is an unknown quantity at this point
full or half

Okay all you cloth ladies out there......when making a shawl that match your dress; do you make a full shawl or a half shaw? What do you like using as fringe.....ribbon, flat fringe or regular fringe?

and material? For those of us who can't afford 3 banded broad/trade cloth, what kind of material do you like to use?

I make full shawls for myself with regular fringe. Gabardine is my usual fabric.

For my nieces, I do half shawls and have used ribbon as well as regular fringe. Fabric varies, usually I have to find the pink that they like and not worry too much about the material.

i have used a nice flannel in a solid. i know it sounds odd, but the flannel holds up to a lot of wear and tear. i go for the regular fringe. don't have the attention span to do the ribbon fringe. i do a full shawl, not a partial one

dwnS:

It depends on what you are using it for.

If you are going to attend tribal dances and community powwows I would suggest a full shawl that can be worn over the shoulders if the occasion calls for it.

If you are using it strictly for contest, go with the half shawl and go all out. Put matching bead/ribbon work, rhinestones and flat fringe.

That's what most popular contestants are doin' nowadays.
