Are cloth dancers boring or what?
It seems that our thread is always pretty dead, do we have no drama or what? LOL Or maybe we just keep it to ourselves. What is the opinion of the pow wows.com populace? Are we never that scandalous or is our category just plain and simple? Even when a thread gets started, it goes down a totally different avenue, completely off the subject....though that is kind of funny sometimes.
So.......................... |

Yikes, I am scared of that!!!! LOL That made me go back and look in the buckskin thread. Pretty intense stuff. Beadwork is a big issue nowadays. Nobody wants anybody else to have anything remotely similar to theirs. Scary, huh? Personally, I would rather pay someone to make mine because face it.....that is alot of hard work and time consuming. There are people that have a talent for it, and I am definitely not one of them.
I am picky about ribbonwork, so I am guilty on that score. I have my own design, made for me by one of my dad's aunts when I ran for tribal princess. I have had that same design for 22 years now. When I lost my dad, I gave my ribbonwork away. Therefore releasing my design. but that was just a part of it. I have new outfits, but have kept my design. It is a very unique design and the women who received my dresses respected that gesture and did not copy them when they had new stuff done. It is all about the dancing. And unfortunately, all about the judging too. ha ha You can dance like you never danced before, but if you don't have the judges......that's pow wow life. LOL |

This year....
....at a powwow there was this southern cloth dancer who was HOT! Nooooo, I mean hot from the Texas heat so she hiked up her dress right there in the arena. She likes attention and she got it because it looked like she was only wearing panties but she had on little white shorts. Well it wasn't boring, just WHAT????

I agree with that! There could be a really good dancer and they may have a racked & jacked outfit on and there is no way that the person would ever place. But if there is a person with a keen outfit on & they can't dance their way out of a bag, they'll most likely win. I think that is totally jacked! My sister does both of our beadwork, but we never contest. We just love to dance.
Speaking of beadwork, one time at this pow-wow in Tahlequah, this one Kiowa chick (who shall remain nameless although she's probably shameless!) asked me to buy a beaded hair barrette from her. It was really nice and I was actually going to purchase it for my sister, but of course, Ms.Thang (who is a cloth dancer that never wins) had to act stank and tell us that if we bought it we couldn't copy the design. What's up with that?!?If she didn't want someone to copy the design she shouldn't sell it to anyone who dances! We weren't going to steal the design! All it was was some kind of line work anyways! Besides, my sister creates her own designs. I was only going to buy it because the colors matched my sister's beadwork. Ms. Big Pie Face just had to get huffy! Aren't some people just total doofs!!LOL... |

Oh geez! I am in Texas alot, that could have been me except that I don't wear shorts under my skirt........I wear a slip. ha ha
It is hot in Texas, though. As for the beadwork, I am getting a new orange set started, but have already seen alot of orange out, so I may go back to lime and pink ( pink is my signature color, me and Julia Roberts). I wanted an orange broadcloth skirt and shawl, but have seen about 4 different orange broadcloth skirts this past fall. AHHHH! To think up something new, without putting flashing lights and batteries on my outfit is difficult. I am about to get brave and go old school without the crown. I have crowns for every set of beadwork, but I am getting tired of the crown war. also, have not done rhinestones in the last two sets of beadwork I have bought. Shocking, huh? |

It's been a long time since I've been on here....but anyway. I don't think we're boring, it's just always about the same stuff. some of us dance just cause we want to...some have to. Contests are cool and all, and it's wonderful to win, but I just think that I'd rather have a steady job to be able to support my family, you know?
Oh hey goose...finally rebuilt that ribbonwork you gave me....have to say that it looks good. Never told you thank you.... so thanks a million, I have a new special occasion dress, and it means alot to me that this was the first one that your dad ever bought for you. I loved him like my own dad...and it's an honor. Anyway, there's got to be something good for us to talk about...so out with it!!:D |

Face it...we are a boring thread. Someone do something outrageous or scandalous please!!!!!!LOL
Steal somone's husband or get into a fistfight at the pow wow. LOL Go on a big drunk, tear it at the nine, round dance to a straight song during a big pow wow......... But, that's okay if we don't......we just seem so sedate on our thread. |

Well....
Well, one time at this pow-wow ( I won't say where exactly but it was here in Oklahoma) my sister almost duked out with this one chick. It was funny as hell, too!! I was trying to stay serious the whole time my sister was getting huffy, cuz if I didn't she would have really lost it!! Damn, I bet everyone on here's gonna think all we(my sister and I) do is get into with others. But it's not really like that. Someone always has to start something with one of us. I swear it never fails!!! I don't really say too much to anybody.
By the way, I did see someone round dance to a straight song. After the contest was over, she kinda ran off to the bathroom totally shamed and looked like near tears. So I followed her in there to point and laugh!! Aye! :D I didn't laugh too hard!!! ;) |

AT this one big pow-wow in Marksville,La I heard that this one big name traditional women dancer was drunk as a skunk. She was going up and down the hotel hallways knocking on peoples doors and such. Then she ended up passing out on her bed, with the door wide open and bucked naked, sprawled out!
GAW Oh yeah and this one time at band camp..........
