Experience????

How do they rate the experience on these boards? I am kind of scared to ask, but is it by how many posts, or if the moderators think you know what the hell you are talking about? How do you get to be a moderator? In cloth dancing, are they experienced cloth dancers? Trace your roots back to ........where? haha (that was a joke) Just wondering, I guess even though I have been dancing cloth for 30 years.....on pow wows.com I am only38% experienced!!! ha ha

I believe the experience is rated by how often you post under that part of the board.

Experience in posting, and experience in cloth dancing are two completly different things! I'm still trying to figure out if I'm a cloth dancer or a fancy shawl dancer, but at Pow Wows I'm just put in with the ladies that wear cloth! Some have shawls around them, and others carry the shawls. I carry my shawl, and wear a cloth dress. I'm not a competitor so I guess in some peoples mind it doesn't matter which I am.

Posting is exactly that, it determines how many posts you make, regardless of any experience!

I've been dancing intertribal for the last 5 years. One person will explain I'm supposed to be Fancy Shawl, and yet a different one will argue simply Cloth. I dance a simple walk, and carry my shawl in the swaying manner in which I've been taught. That is all I know.

But in powwows.com if you don't know your style, then you don't deserve to dance ........ funny the ladies who insisted I get out there never said that!

I was asked to be a moderator.... that is how anyone gets to be one, by invitation. I was watched....posts were looked at...how often I posted and posting content... and then of course my marvelous humor swung the decision my way... :taunting: :rofl2:

Yes I have many years experience in cloth dancing.

NDNKIDZ:

I understand what you are saying.

Yes, to people who powwow a lot, there is distinct difference between women who dance with a shawl over their shoulders and women who carry a shawl.

But to someone who may not dance a lot and is asked to "exhibition dance" with all the women, the lines may not be quite as clear.

_____

Now back to the main question.

Goose:

Even though you may have powwowed your whole life, on powwows.com your experience level is only 38% because you haven't posted a lot on this subject.

If you truly want to have a higher experience level on pws.com, just post more.

On the other hand, I know what you are saying about real experience VS. cyber experience. . . . .

They are two different things.

It's kinda' like,

"Who is more credible: the scholar who receives his PhD. studying Indians OR the Indian who lives it?"

Hey koolNDN:

I REpreSENT your last post. My Great, great, great, great, great, great, not-so-great, Great grandmother was a Cherokee Indian Princess.

That makes me 1/164 Cherokee and proud. I even have a card to prove it! We invented the first Indian Alphabet and printed the first Indian newspaper - The Cherokee Phoenix.

But you're right . . . (sigh*)

I'm still not sure what side to hold my shawl.

Is it the right side or the left. And, and what foot do I start off with!

I never asked, and no one ever said! It's simply the way I was taught!

Yes I understand they are different, but if you only read about the differences, and the Pow Wows here don't DANCE the differences then you can get confused!

Some of the CLOTH Dressed ladies carry their shawl, some wear them, but they dance the same, at the same time, and in the same order at Grand Entry ...... ok so now what?

That doesn't make me stupid or ignorant ..... simply doing the way I was taught, and since I don't compete I see no reason to ask questions about that catagorie! I've been told I'm Cloth, and I've been told I'm fancy Shawl simply because I carry the Shawl. Now who are you going to listen to? The much older ladies who will argue amongst theirselves? Or just get out there and dance?
