Mom: Web Hoax Led Girl to Kill Herself

I read this story yesterday on the ABCNews Website, its a sad and tragic story: ABC News: Mom: Web Hoax Led Girl to Kill Herself

We as Parents of Teenage girls can learn alot from stories like these. Pay attention to our young when they seem depressed and angry. I know that seems to be most of time, But I do not let them surf the net in there own room the family computer is in the living room. I have ways to know where and with whom they are chatting with.
Its was bad enough when we had to worry who they were talking with on the streets but we felt safe when they came home. Well the internet can be a wonderful tool for information and entertainment but dont let it invade your home with the other side of it. Get involve with them know who they are chatting with and in contact with.

there seems to be alot messed up about the situation.
Its not easy to be a parent nowadays.. if it ever was an easy job....

Teach them to look both ways when crossing the street, how to swim so they don't drown, and that the opinions of strangers on the internet should not save or destroy your life....

This happened on the out skirts of St. Louis, and the parents are on the news trying to figure out why would a parent help her daughter, set up this girl, with a fake myspace guy, just to see if the girl was talking bad about her daughter, they all live in the same subdivision....the mother that made the fake myspace account has not been charged, and the girls parents are laying her to rest this week sometime :( very sad....but I seen these kind of actions from teens and parents when my teens where growing up, cliques and stuff, it's horrible......sad part was the father had just assured the girl that it was no big deal and that she was better than that, few minutes later the mother went upstairs to check on her but she had hung herself in the closet....in a matter of minutes....the mother of the fake myspace already knew that the girl had a depression disorder.....

That poor girl and her parents, that women should be prosecuted. She knew the girl had a history of emotional disorder and she drove her to further depression by being a petty cold hearted person. I dont know but as I hear it its not the intent that matters but the effect. It doesnt matter if she intended for the girl to hurt herself what matters is she did and she should be penalized for it look at the examples these parents are setting for their children. Its disgusting she was pretty girl too.

omg the other mom already knowing bout her depression? that is tragic. it is something we all have to be aware of, these kids are under a ton of pressure, more than we ever were. it really is a silent killer isn't it? all i know is that the other mother will have to live with that for the rest of her life, and she just screwed her kid up for life. so sad. that poor family.

That's just sick. I have to wonder about how some people can even look at themselves in the mirror when they do stuff like this. This is terrible and the other girls mother should be charged with something, at least some kind of fraud.

what a frikken disturbed parnanoid sicko of a mother...i hope someone suggests some kind of psychiatric testing of this 'mother'.......hope the guilt gives her cancer.....how sad for the parents....poor girl....

hope they throw the book at her ... i found this to be soo unbelievable. so unbelievably cruel, especially when she KNEW that this young girl was battling with depression.

these kind of parents really irk me, that go to extremes to so call "protect" their children. you know the types - who lie to police when they know damn well their kid was out there breaking in and entering or whatever. more or less hide "the gun" LOL. normal childhood development involves the trials and tribulations of high school and learning on your own how to handle them - someone is always going to be talking behind someone else's back .. you need to learn how to deal with it. Or you wont get very far in life.

having your parent stalk and harass your "rivals" at school isnt going to help you, the parents job is to step in when your child cant handle it or the situation gets out of control - there was no mention that this typical teen situation was out of control UNTIL the parent chose to get involved.

can you just imagine, that other family was probably sitting around their computer LAUGHING at this young girl - who thought she had found .. someone. and then didnt have the common decency to stand up .. for their actions after the young girl took her own live.

and I blame BOTH moms.

How could ANY parent not monitor their kids internet usage today? Is there not enough news stories about this cra p?

I didnt have the internet until i was in my 20's, and a very crude version of it at that point. maybe 16k dial up.

Do you know how hard it was to find a photo of a naked woman when I was 12? You had to be 18 to buy a magazine. between me and my friend we had 1 really old bad magazine that was stored in a run down leaky shed where no adults could find it.

an actual porn movie was virtually unobtainable!

How come there is no age limit on the net? No proof needed other than please click on "I AM OVER 18" or "I AM UNDER 18"?

Let kids read the encyclopedia and ASK their parents questions like I did. Oh no, they cant becuase the parents are no where to be found and if they are, they dont care becuae it isnt THEIR responsibility to raise there kids, it is the teachers.
