I dont know if this topic has been covered before or not. What are some things that some of you have said to people that remark about being a blue eyed ndn? Anyone work with a totally annoying person that uses the same line over and over until it gets so old you just want to grab by the neck and squeeze?

My boss is one. I might make a mistake here or there, no one is perfect, but he makes this remark each time, "And people wonder why we won the west" or rather how they defeated us. I want something to use just to shut him up each time he brings it up.

If you really wanted to, you could report him for making racist remarks. If it's a big company that won't be tolerated at all and you wouldn't have to worry about making a remark back.

One time at a previous job, I heard a group of girls cracking up over one of my families Ponca name. I told them that I was related to them and didn't appreciate them making fun of it. This German girls says "you mean no ones ever made fun of it or asked you about it?" To which I replied "No one has ever had the audacity to make fun of the name in front of me" and then I just stared at her for a long time and walked off. No one knew what to say. I felt the point was made. *L* They never made fun of a native name again around me. I'm sure they did when I was gone.

That sounds like a sucky situation. I'm also a proud blue eyed Indian :) Anyway I haven't gotten many comments but the few times I have, I've said something like "you wish you had blue eyes" (because hardly anyone around here has blue eyes, white, Hispanic, Indian, anything) or "yeah that's genetics for you" and blow them off with a laugh. I think if you can laugh at people's insults, it makes them uncomfortable and they'll stop. BUT, if its been going on for awhile, maybe you should think about reporting him. Or, you could confront him- next time he says something to you, call him out on it as being racist and tell him to stop. That tactic might also catch him off guard. Maybe he never realized what a jerk he's being?

Go with CandaePrincess and Billyjoejimbob on this one. He has no right to make racist comments at all, not to mention each time you make a trivial error. After all, his parents obviously made the greater error. If you get "disciplined" for taking legal action it will only throw gas on the fire in the eyes of the courts.


But a good comeback would be:

"Oh really? If you won the west how come we're still alive and winning our rights back in court battle after court battle with your crooked government?"

I like all of your comebacks so far, but this is one I think he can relate with the most. I think I might start calling him Mr. Spock or something. He is all logical and stuff, and every bit the historian. Whenever we get into an arguement, he does have his facts straight, at least the way he learned them.

Legal stuff is out of the question. This is a small business, small as in, like him and two employees. If I report him the company will likely get shut down, and my job is down the tubes. This is kinda all in fun anyway, though it can get heated. I just think it stinks he does it in front of customers, but if they get out of hand I cut on them, and get away with it cause they know I will fix their stuff right. If they complain too much I charge more, lol.

Besides, I am outta here in a year. Will probably get this kind of treatment up north as well, but arent we in greater numbers up there?

Oh yeah and I love all these blue eyed comments yall are givin. Good ammunition.
