Increase in eagle sightings

I live down south, in Arkansas, in the last year in my travels to powwows, mostly in Oklahoma, I've been seeing more and more eagles than ever before, and even here locally too. Not sure if migrations have increased, lack of habitat up north or what. On a trip up in Missouri recently, spotted six in one area, and it's not uncommon for me to see at least one, if not three or four on one of my trips, every trip out. Has anyone else noticed this increase? I"m wondering if it's a more localized increase, but better yet, I hope eagles are on the upswing, and breading years have been more plentiful than in the past. Have you seen more eagles in your area in the last year?

....I live right near the Hudson River, and spotted a couple of immature Bald Eagles flying across to some snags on the other side of the river.I just can't help but smile when I see something like this, especially knowing how important eagles are to NDN people, and I know the immature Balds represent the Spotted Eagles that we hear about in stories and legends,a very special bird to many Native tribes, and many Northwestern tribes use bald eagle feathers on their outfits and fans, being that there are so many that gather there(Chilkat,Alaska and Eagle River),but I am most glad to have them literally in my backyard, where I can see them every day....keep smilin'1

ah, same here!, makes me very happy, especially since there was a time eagles were on the endangered species list. NY, CT, MN, not just my area, this is good. I hope to hear of observations from other places, anywhere else?

Absolutely

I truly LOVE this time of year. The Migration south -then back up north. Living where the Missouri river is met by another major river. It's the super highway for raptors as well as ducks and geese. Over the last five years,i would say i've seen 4X the amount of eagles i used to see.
One day while duck hunting the Missouri river, i was set up on a sandbar out in the middle. Decoys where spread all around. I was buried in the sand with some burlap(sandcolored) to hide me.
I had an immature baldy swoop within 10-12 feet of me. Scared the Be-Jesus outta me. I never saw him comming. He had eye spied one of the morning ducks i had taken. Wonderful experience.
Sorry for the babble, just had to tell that.

Yeah, streamhawk, they are for sure on the rise

Lostsalt - thanks for the "babble". With this hunk o' junk strapped to my butt I can't get out to hunt anymore... brought back some memories of quiet, cold mornings when I had the pleasure of sitting in the sand.

Yes, this is also true in Michigan as well. Since I hunt, and fish, and ice fish too I spend a lot more time outside than many, and have noticed a LOT more eagles in our state, and much further south than ever before, even down to St. Helen, and the Saginaw Bay area of the lower peninsula.
While deer hunting in Menominee county, I saw numerous eagles, to the point where it wasn't an 'event' to see one! It is good to see this...since not long ago just seeing one was a major event...

I had only seen 3 wild eagles around this area all my life. And then I moved to florida last june and I couldn't believe it. Living just off of marco island I seen eagles almost everyday. While down at the cape one day setting out on the pier watching people swim and boats go by, I seen a a pair of birds flying towards the cape, and then another coming across from the other side of the water, as they got closer to one another they had dropped in altitude and it was easy to see there were 2 pair of bald eagles meeting up for what ever reasons. I watched for a good 25 min or more as they flew over heard circling and riding the wind, and then they became specks over head and eventually disappeared into the clouds. It was a sight to see, because I watched a good 10 minutes afterwards, with the clouds disapating, and never seen the eagles reappear. So who knows...
