when my dad was a kid my grandma wouldnt take him to the store in the summer cuz she would get the dirtest looks from the other women shoppin as if she had a black mix baby (cuz my dad had curly hair). my mom found out when she took us alldown to texas one summer when i was 5. he was almsot black... but his nails stayed white pink... she said he looked like he painted them!! lol

I have a similiar story......back when I was little, my pawpaw had some land in East Texas. When we'd come down to East Texas for a visit he'd sometimes take some of the older kids (mostly the boys) down to a creek that ran across his land. He called the creek "tiger branch". He thought it had all kinds of healing waters and would help the boys to grow into big strong boys if they drank the water. I was the only girl cousin, so I mostly had to stay at the house with my mawmaw....but everyonce in awhile when the boys were out playing or hunting, pawpaw would take me down to "tiger branch" to wade in the water.

Well, my family was living in West Texas and me and my brother spent most of our play time outside, especially during the summer........so we stayed pretty dark all year round.
I had some cousins (from the white side of the family) that lived down in Houston and they had really pale white skin.

One summer we all met down there for the 4th of July.....we hadn't been there very long before my pawpaw looked at all of us kids, he told me and my brother to stay at the house, that the kids from Houston were too "pale and sickly looking" so he was going to take them to "tiger branch" to drink some of that good healing water so they'd get tan and healthy looking. haha They never did tan much.......just got sunburned while me and my brother just stayed dark.
I don't think pawpaw ever realized it had more to do with our genetics than our health......haha.

now I have bad news at my house, night of 23rd got a phone call from daughter in Ore..nother daughter went to hosp. cause she couldn't breath, ended up with heart surgery went down hill from there. morning of 24th oldest daughter informed me she got a call also. daughter in hospt. is on life support. 2 daughters from Ore. is flying to Carson City Nev. to Hosp. to pull plug. may not have daughter No. 4 by late today the 24th. if she goes that is 2 childern I have lost. thought I would let the den know. wish my laptop was here. my feet swell sitting here at the desk. so now I'm leaveing 4 this morning try to be back later with uo date.; take care, GOD Bless
