Wind Burn

My trip to D.C was an adventure. There was only one major accident on my way there. A truck was in the median rolled over on interstate 64 between Williamsburg and Richmond, VA.
on the way to the Rolling Thunder event I almost lost my kick stand. The nut on the bolt had vibrated off but the spring was still on and the spring held enough tension on the bolt so it did not come out. Thank God ! When I got to the gas station I used a nut that held on one of the rear foot pegs for the passenger. Good thing I didn't have a passenger. The rider that I merged with on the way was also a blessing, he had the other wrench that I needed. I thanked him at the gas station near Fredricksburg. He was a Marine going to the same event but we parted ways from there, he was going to a friends house to pick him up before he headed to D.C. I rolled into the pentagon parking lot at about 9:30 am on Sunday. This was the fourth time in four years, the last two years it rained and this year it was sunny and 90 degrees. If I were to guess I would say that there were about 300,000 people there. A pretty strong showing of support by both bikers and parade watchers. On the way home I could feel the wind chapping my face. Next year I think I will put on the windshield to prevent any future wind burn, I would rather put a windshield on the motorcycle than wear a full face helmet. What is your preference?

The "bugs in my teeth" phase of my life is well over, but back in the day when helmets were optional - I mostly rode without a helmet. Helmets were dismal affairs that blocked one's hearing and peripheral vision. On long putts, a scarf for nose and lower face (worn outlaw style) offered some protection from the wind.

Given the choice today, I'd go for the windscreen on the bike - bugs splatted on a windscreen two inches from your eyes and attached to your head might interfere with your ability to see, no?

That would be a sight, MPV4 used as a sidecar *LOL*

Right now I get to every powwow that will have me that I can reach using mass transit. Maybe another few years I'll get a van and be able to get to a few more

I only like helmets with face shields when it's raining out.

Yes, My dog is going to the show. Chief Samson looks good, he is like any other dog out there, he rolles around in the grass and dirt, making it hard to keep his coat clean. His coat is Fawn, if he was Brindle it would not be so bad. lol
