Artic Refuge in Danger AGAIN

Prezzy Bushwacker and his crew are at it again. I just heard this am that the house has again approved the bill that would allow oil drilling in the Artic Wildlife Refuge. Thus far the Senate has defeated the bill each presentation. I would like to encourage all of you that aren't already involved in this initiative to take the time to contact your area Senators and to encourage them to veto this bill. Don't have time for a call or letter or finding your rep? Go to either:

http://www.care2.com/ or http://www.defendersofwildlife.com/

and sign the electronic petition/form letter. They will be routed to you.

Also care2 and Defenders also have some other causes that you might be interested in adding your name to.

Even if you are the laziest, most selfish person in the world, who can not see past the end of your nose, look to your loved ones and your children and those that will come after them and do it for them.

Thanks!

You have to wonder if the gas prices are being artificially inflated to sway Congress to vote for drilling in the ANWR.

This oil is not worth it. We'll (as a nation) put off developing alternative enery sources, and destroy a pristine ecosystem while we're at it. The refuge is already under stress from the global warming going on.

Defenders sent me this a while back:

Getting informed and holding your elected officials accountable for how they voted is as easy as 1-2-3:

1. Find out how your U.S. Representative and Senators voted -- check out Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund's new Conservation Report Card. http://action.defenders.org/site/Vot...wgrwgo2.app26a

2. Tell lawmakers that you know the score: Call your elected officials' Washington, D.C. offices via the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 -- all you have to do is give the operator your home zip code. Once you're connected, let your lawmakers know that wildlife issues are very important and you intend to keep a close eye on their upcoming conservation votes.

This year's report card includes votes on two of the most important conservation and wildlife issues in decades: a vote to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to harmful oil drilling and a vote on to prevent the gutting of the Endangered Species Act.

Our report card gives you a bird's eye view of how well Congress voted on protecting our nation's wildlife and the natural heritage we are all so proud of. It's also a great tool to hold our elected officials accountable for votes on that threaten wildlife and the habitat it needs to survive.

The Gwich'in people depend on the caribou and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is important in the caribou life cycle. I spoke with a number of the Gwich'in people who came to DC when the last round of idiocy was in Congress. Drilling in ANWR would end the people's ability to live in a traditional manner by destroying the caribou birthing grounds. When you talk to people who have hunted all their lives you can see in their eyes when it is the truth. I believe the Gwitch'in people when they say this would destroy their way of life.

The facts are simple:

Oil is a finite resource, we are going to run out sooner or later.

Since we're going to run out anyway, why not use the dollars to develop alternatives instead of spending increasing amounts for exploration and developing sources in ecologically fragile areas which will yield only a fractional amount of fuel (as seen from a global perspective)?

Finally, this land was set aside to ensure that everyone and everything would be able to survive. Canada and the US made an agreement to protect the Porcupine River caribou herd. To agree to drill in ANWR is to break yet another agreement with those who live on the land:

In this context, the U.S. interest in drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge – ANWR – gives rise to great reservations on the part of Canada and Canadians.

Now, you may ask what business is it of the Canadian Prime Minister to question what the United States can do in its own territory. Fair enough. The answer is that Canada and the United States have a mutual obligation to the fragile ecosystem of the north. It must be protected and nurtured, not despoiled. Drilling in the ANWR puts both wildlife and the culture of the G'witchin people at risk. It’s our mutual obligation to ensure they are not.

And it’s not a new obligation. Some 20 years ago, we jointly agreed to protect the Porcupine River caribou herd, which each year migrates from the Yukon in Canada to the refuge’s coastal plain.

To destroy this land because of the sickness of greed, seems so wrong. To sit back and do nothing while the decision to do so is made seems so much worse.

Thats the whole idea.....they want to convince that the oil is needed when definitely its not.

They think "we gon run out anyways might as well profit from this too"

but i pray that the oil stays there at least till white man finds a technology to get them into space and on other planets.....this way if all the oil is gone from middleeast at least theres AWR to fuel their ships and get them the hell out of here and maybe then we can have our planet back the way it should be once and for all....lol

It all boils down to the money. Bush's best and closest business partners and backers are the Saudi's. It would not benefit Bush to wreck so long and lasting a mutually beneficial relationship for 8 years in office.

In the end, I honestly don't believe that we have it in our power to destroy the earth. The Earth, the Creator, Nature, God, whatever you want to call it, will not allow it. Man is but a pimple on the arse of the earth and I firmly believe that if we don't stand up and make some major changes and continue to protect those positive changes that have been made for the sake of the environment, flora and fauna, that we will walk the way of the dinosaurs. ALL OF US.
