My mama was not a Cherokee princess
(Oct.22, 1996) out of Dallas, TX:
"Cherokee ancestry fights Alzheimer's" Researchers find the purer the blood line, the better the protection. Cherokee Indians have genetic insurance against Alzheimer's disease, Dallas and Oklahoma researchers have reported. Scientists studied 52 members of the Cherokee Nation, 26 with Alzheimer's and 26 without. Using genealogocal data, they found that as the proportion of Cherokee ancestry goes up, the risk of developing the brain disorder goes down. Among people 65 years or older who were at least half Cherokee, about 34 per cent had Alzheimer's disease. In contrast, about 65 per cent of the same age group who were less than half Cherokee had the disease. The next step, say the scientists, is to figure out which gene or genes are decreasing the incidence of Alzheimer's. The average life-span of a native person in Canada is 62. As for not getting your brown envelope - don't believe the white-eyes! NDNs can live pretty long - my husband's granny was 107 when she passed. |
