Must Read Poem : Visions Of A Native American Vet
Hey to all here in powwow.com land!
A brother of mine sent me this poem and thought that I would share it with everyone out there....its a pretty good Native poem (and its all true too): >Visions of a Native American Vet > > > >My eyes will never get to see >The buffalo herds run, wild and free >The way my Great-Great-Grandfather did >When he was just a little kid. > >I'll never see the wild horses run >From the Ocean of the Rising Sun >To the Great Sea which lies to the West, >Where the Sun goes at night to get its rest. > >Once upon a mountain one could stand >And gaze uninterrupted across open land. >The air once pure and clean, is now smogged and thick, >The rivers cry in pain, the land is sick. > >The Red Blood in my heart beats proud. >But it no longer beats so loud. >My people are a vanishing race >Transported from another time and place. > >My people fought in all the wars, >Defended America on foreign shores. >But when war was over and home we'd come, >No one cared about what we had done. > >No counting coup for our brave young men. >No heroic tales of where and when. >No tribal dances to celebrate. >Just prejudice and fear...and hate. > >In poverty, on the reservation >We live, vestiges of the Red Nation. >Our life here is not that of the past. >We know not how much longer we can last. > >To roam free once more is our collective vision. >Not to live in stark division. >What we want, rightfully belongs to us. >Taken from us by those we thought we could trust. > >Our children go to govenment schools >Where they are taught about the Golden Rule. >They do not learn the Native Lore; >It is being lost, forevermore. > >Our people will never survive to see >A world, where once more we can be free. >With tear-filled eyes and sadness of face >We see the end: the dying of a race. > > > AUTHOR UNKNOWN

I was just forwarded this...it goes along the same lines. Let us always remember those that are displaced and keep them in our hearts and prayers.
Subject: PRAYER REQUEST FOR A BROTHER THIS IS A PRAYER REQUEST FOR A COMANCHE BROTHER. HE IS A VIETNAM VET., A MEDICINE MAN, AND DIRECT DESCANDANT OF RED CLOUD. SOMEHOW HIS LIFE DID NOT WORK OUT THE WAY HE HAD PLANNED, AND HE WAS FOUND IN THE WOODS, DRUNK, WITH A LOADED PISTOL AT HIS SIDE. AS OF TODAY, HE IS THE PSYCH. WARD IN THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. WHEN HE IS DISCHARGED, HE WILL HAVE NO WHERE TO GO. HE HAS LOST ALL OF HIS POSSESSIONS. HE IS, BY THE WILL OF OUR CREATOR, MY SPIRTUAL BROTHER. HE IS STILL IN HIS EARLY FIFTIES. MY NATIVE BROTHERS AND SISTERS, ALL I AM ASKING FOR IS YOUR PRAYERS. THANK YOU. |

Thankyou
Thankyou YellowHawk...
Poems like that really make you think and appreciate the fight our ancestors endured so that we could have what we have today, to some it may not be much but it is all we have left. I just wish that the world was not so divided and that other races cold see the contributions which could be made by our Native Brothers and Sisters if we were only given the chance and that we would not lead anyone astray as we have been lead ourselves. Thankyou agian for helping us remember |

Everyone is so very welcome! You know when I got the poem in an email here while back I thought about 'forwarding'
it off to everyone in my addy list (like I normally do). But I don't have that many Native Friends in that list and probably the ones that would have gotten it would never even understand what the poem is all about. Thats why I thought about sharing it with all the Natives here at Powwows.com. That poem is so true too. If I ever run across any more like that one, rest assure it will be posted here for everyone else to see. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE OUT THERE!!!
