Awwwwwwwww I remember that time when?
I am in the mood for some feel good stories..:) Powwow's across america are for getting together with family, old friends, and making new friends. Tell us about a memorible powwow, one that sticks out in your mind as the best one you ever attended..:) Grab your kleenex box, get a comfy chair, and get ready to feel goot inside.. :)

Lame Deer and Crow Fair three years ago. Hit both of them in two months. The trip to Lame Deer was with two of our best friends, to help another friend out. Met some truely awesome folks and got to share in many of their ways. Learned alot about the Northern Cheyenne that weekend. Survived their nightly storm (only lost one tent pole!). Hated to come home.
Crow Fair was totally awesome. Were invited by Leon OldElk Stewart. Put us up in tipi and camped! Never seen anything like it before! Amazed by the children (at both places) speaking their language. Learned alot about Crow ways and dress. The family was wonderful -- Walter, Albert and all the ladies. Met the "world's best chicken dancer" -- Marvin (he was 4 I think) and too cute! If I would have had a job - we wouldn't of come back to Oklahoma. Been trying to get back there ever since. Plan to make it again next year. Those were two of my favorites, the memories are just as awesome today as they were the day after! Okay - who's next? |

Being a host drum at the Gathering, Schemitzun and several other big powwows, in the same year.
We were a brand new drum, had just put out a new CD and were getting ready to do our first live recording. At the end of the year I travelled to Germany and found our CD in a German tourist shop. We were on a roll and travelling non-stop to powwows across Indian Country. - It's funny how getting an 8-to-5, permanent job, changes things! *LOL

Schemitzun 1998
My first trip to that pw and my first trip that far east. My dad's drum group was host so about 15 of my family and I flew over there. We all had such a great time over there! :D My late uncle, who passed away last August, made the trip out there with us and that's one the reasons why this pw always sticks out in my mind. He was being his goofy self all w/e and he braided my hair too! ;) We got to see so many awesome drums and dancers, it was great! I especially enjoyed all the southern singing. I got see WhoMe's drum group for the first time and I thought they were cool! :D Aah, memories. I could go on and on but I'll stop here. :)

SKYDOME 2003
bux and i decided last minute to head to this pw and drove all night through the snow storm to make it for grand entry... but got delayed and were kinda bummed... not to mention sleepy by the time we checked into our hotel so we decided to make evening grand entry and the MC gave "those two CROW girls" a shout on the mic and even gave us a double beat crow hop exhibition... just the two of us!... it felt good to rep CROW style out there!

I flew to that powwow and had a blast with my Anishinaabe buddies. I got to watch two of my good friends dance in a tie breaker and they looked like they were team dancing, which was too cool! My sister friend set me up with this handsome man that I went to dinner with and all was right in the world for a few brief moments,lol.... Going back east, I also got to see the Smoke Dancers dance their awesome dances and visit with some Haudenosaunee friends. Then to top it all off, I won in my category so I got to come home with extra $$$, just in time for my son's birthday.

Well, when u live on an island and powwow singing and dancing is juss something that is beggining to catch up to the rest of the world, Any powwow, where theres more than 50 dancers is a good powwow. Hinckley powwow this year was great, good drums good dancing. It was like my second time ever dancing, n After I registered for the competition, i saw a couple of the dancers who were in my category, I was like, hmmm im gonna go get undressed now, but i didnt, it was a blast, met a few people, I was suppose to meet someone else but that didnt turn out, but the powwow was good.
