Winnipeg area help needed - housefire!

Hi everyone - I'm looking for some suggestions about where to go and who to ask for donations for a family that suffered a house fire on Friday - they live in a rural area and currently are camping out as the house is not habitable and hydro is turned off.

The house was not completely destroyed but the part that did not burn has suffered much smoke and water damage!

I'm not certain if the family had insurance..............

Oh and by the way they are a well-known traditional family.

Post your suggestions here or PM me. Thanks!

geez..thats rough..i don't have any suggestions really...jus wanted to say my thoughts are with the family..hope they get on their feet real soon...

hey..this might sound kinna corny but around here...like with church groups...the older kids put together car washes...it may not make a big difference but maybe a start??...maybe something where the community gets involved to help out...an i know school is out..but here at my daughters school...they were raisin money for a sick child...so they asked for donations from all the kids...i also know that they had a basketball game...i think somethin like teachers against the students...i'm not really sure how they went about gettin donations...maybe...do it like those wrapping paper/xmas gifts/candles catalog things an the kid who sells the most gets these cheesy prizes...i know every school does em...but instead of sellin things...go to business' to see if they'll donate money...n the person who sells the most...maybe gets a prize??...kind of like an incentive...

hope it gives u some ideas..good luck!!

Prayers out to the family

Hi Singing Eagle

Y not contact the local radio station(s)/newsrooms ... to shout out for donations, with a list of things the family needs to get them back on their feet.

The family r in my prayers.

I think the family's band has already sent a notice to the Native radio station so that's done - going to see them later - will get more info on what's happening.

I know that they are just grateful everyone made it out safely and that we were able to contain the fire until the firetrucks arrived so the whole house didn't go.

You could always ask if you can put up donation jars around their town (be it just a gas stop or grocery store).
Also if you let the churches in the area know, they may be able to help out as well. Or even have a donation drive in the town....ask people to bring things just to help out the family. Any little bit would help to help cut costs.
Just a few thoughts.....hope it helps!

I'm rather broke at the moment... but I'd gladly donate some beadwork for a raffle or auction to help raise some money SE...

Another thing you can do is contact a local bank and have them set up an account where people can donate money.

Sometimes around here they put an ad in the paper asking for donations of SPECIFIC sizes of clothing.

Maybe even contact a local bottled water distributor and ask them to donate drinking water to the family.

I've seen people at powwows speak, and ask for donations. And it came to a pretty good turnout. Like with money, clothes, food, etc....

They have plans to move a new home onto their property - the old one will be demolished.

I believe them to be travelling right now - he does much work on the road!
