What does wayyy/whay mean?

It's just an expression. If you're joking around with someone or surprised by something someone says....you would say "whay". It's just native slang.

I do believe it's an "Okie-izm".

That is, one of those expressions only Okies use.....ndn Okies that is. I ain't never heard em outta any other kinda ndn out there. THey come up with some strange ones...but, when you live in OK I guess it kinda does things to yer brain. All that "nothingness" gets to you I guess. ...that's also my theory on why they're so good at beadwork, singing & dancing.

Might be more of a northern thing but if someone tells you something unbelievable like a big thing..like.. "I found a $100 bill!" they may say "NO WAY!!!" then we would say "whayyyyy!!" (oh.. and this can be repeated several times in succession..

)

And I found it more up north it is Gahhhh.. and southern it is Gawwww!!!

oh.. and also. something is whack.. like that is just whacked!
