paper ballots

Hi to everyone I realy not which thread I should put this in. here it is. I sure which I hope you will join me in signing this petition from
MoveOn. It's about the new electronic voting terminals that are being
installed in many states. http://www.moveon.org/protectourvotes/ Too
many are "black box" voting machines -- computer terminals that don't
produce paper ballots. Without paper ballots, there's no way to know if
our votes are counted correctly. Also, computers are vulnerable to
malfunction -- how often does yours freeze up? Every voting method
should produce a paper ballot, so we can verify that our votes will
count. Join me in calling for paper ballots, at:
http://www.moveon.org/protectourvotes/ Thank you.

Thumbs up

thnx Ginger for posting that link & info.

There's electronic voting at one of the local firestations here, some people utilized it. Not me though, because of that very reason--no accountibility.

If there was a close election race between 2 candidates, there is no way to actually re-count the electronic votes; thus, there is a loophole for vote tampering.

If the loophole can be closed, the system would be more beneficial.

Good idea, Gin. Yep, how could they do a recount??!!!??

I take care of about 200+ computers and I don't trust them as far as I can regularly throw them. It would just give the hackers a new project.:(

Question how would it work?

im confused - would it be like a receipt to keep at home or would it just spit it out and you'd walk it over and turn it in like normal?

i thought that the benefits of using computerized voting was to ensure greater flexibility (bcs filling out the scantron circles things is such a pain in the shorts if you have to erase one you can ruin the whole darn ballot and have to start over) and greater accuracy (bcs the hole punch things r so questionable... can we say chad?)... right??? Not to mention saving trees....???

:Thinking

Couldn't the computer just give us a confirmation number (like you get when you pay your bills online) or something for us to write down and keep that would serve the same purpose w/o having to waste more paper? :dontknow:

sorry if these r stupid questions - im just curious....

No those aren't stupid questions Sophie :D their good ones,
and I do remember the Chad's. I'm from Florida
computer voting could be wonderful thing but their are so many people that can change your vote( computer experts working for the government) to benefit another candidate their is so much back stabbing right now.
it would be awesome to be able to have a printed receipt from electronic voting but that is not happening
at the moment.
