Once He Gets in the Book, It's Shower Time

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — A Vietnamese man who hasn't been to a barber in 31 years is vying to get in the Guinness World Records for having the longest hair, state-controlled media reported Monday.

Tran Van Hay's hair is 20 feet long, Thanh Nien newspaper said.

Normally tied up and covered by a scarf, his hair has grown four feet in the past seven years. He last had it washed six years ago, the paper said.

Hay, 67, is a traditional medicine practitioner from southern Kien Giang province, some 220 miles southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. He provides free treatment to villagers in the region.

The Guinness Web site says the current record for long hair, set in 1997, is held by Hoo Sateow of Chiang Mai, Thailand, at 16 feet 11 inches.

well the current record holder was on the guiness show on fox before and his hair was in many dreds.. I have never seen hair that was ONE BIG DRED LOCK!!! It looks like a huge wad of what you would either pull out of the link trap in your dryer or what would come out of your vaccuum cleaner bag!! However.. 20 feet IS impressive!

I don't think it should count as the longest hair if you can't brush through it! It should be more like, worlds longest dread! You know half o' that mess isn't even attached to his head... like weave... *shivers* G-ross!!!

I have to wash mine everyday-- none of this 6 years mess *fans* ewww!!! Mine is half way down my tush-- I start sitting on it and I'm off to get a trim... *snip snip*

Now I seen some ndn women with long hair... and guys... dang--- makes me nearly fall outta my chair-- Tommy Wildcat has long *** hair... and my old buddy Joey Chief (from Little Island Cree) -- have you seen his hair lately?? DANG!! I love a man with long hair! My dad's is down to his bum -- we all have to fix it for him (daughter duty) but I can't imagine him any other way. :)

There's nice long and FREAK long... that was freak long... NO NEED!!
