Being a full time ndn, and part time everything else!!
I just wanted to write to everyone who is on here who isnt able to go to powwows all the time. I believe it really asks a lot of a person to find a balance between everything. I dont travel as much as I want to, but I do travel a lot. Right now- i am 21 years old, a senior in college, holding down a couple part time jobs, lead singer of my drum group, and very active in my traditional mvskoke ceremonies. So anybody who is in the same birch bark canoe as me, give a shout out and keep your head up!

I once had to sacrifice going to a powwow so I could stay home and type on www.powwows.com. Aye :rofl2:
On a serious note. Family and work.

sup 1badazzndn-
I feel like that all the time. I'm in my senior year too - finishing my degrees in math and physics and all that. Between work and study, I don't even have enough time to sleep. The only time I really go to powwows is when they're local or when it's REALLY important that I go because my family is having a special or giveaway or something. For me though, it's not really about me missing out on powwows. I feel bad missing out on the things my family does - like go root digging for feast or namegivings. Being in the city - I pretty much work with what I have. I have dinner with the other natives on campus and we eat food that "feels like home" - like salmon, elk, berries, roots, ndn corn. We play basketball together - lol - i'm not that good tho! When someone is really feening for a powwow, we all work together to see who can drive, who can pay for gas, and all that. Sounds kinda crazy I s'pose...but when you're in the city...you just miss SEEING natives & being around them. good post!!:) It'll all pay off in the end right:) much love |

I know it...
I work full time with the city in my spare time I work on my children's dance outfits and my husbands stuff. Not to mention the kids sports. So it is real hard to be consistant. Right now I am working on two things. A new jingle dress for my daughter and her moccasins. The next thing is my son's new grass outfit. I am about two months behind. We try to make all the pow-wows here in Oklahoma and for the most part only miss two or three of them. My kids love to dance so we do everything in our power to keep them well rounded.
