Unhappy Dogsitting

I feel like such an idiot. My close friend asked me to watch her house plus the dog and cat for the long weekend. On Sunday I forgot to bring the dog back into the house from the yard, before taking off for the pow wow (running behind schedule). When I got home that night, her son said that the dog is missing and the yard gate was open. Someone must have opened the gate while we were gone.

I have been searching and searching the past day and a half. My friend and her daughter are due home later on tonight. I am in panic-mode as I feel like I am letting her down.

I already checked the City Animal Services and filed a missing report. They told me to phone all vets in the surrounding area and Humane Society. I am not sure what to do or say if I can't find him before they get home. YIKES!!!!!!

Exact same thing happened to me,.....only I was the owner of the dog. We searched all night. I found him the next day. He had been hit by someone and was dead. My wife was devastated. He was like a member of the family.

I truly hope that he/she is found in good health.

My new dog (I have two) found a way out of the yard during a thunderstorm the other day. He's scared of storms. Anyways, I found him in a neighbours open garage about a 1/2 mile away. My wife was in tears. I was thinking, "oh no, not again!" Good thing I found him.

Good luck!!!

Just wondering .. how did you handle this happening. I know of people that have lost relationships over less than this.

The gate was left open by someone else. My partner was really upset. It took a few weeks for her to start to get over it. Not much I could do to help other than to comfort her. I got a new dog for her which really helped. He'll be with us seven years now. We got another dog and he's about 3, so when the older one goes, she'll still have her to keep her company.

When a dog-lover loses their pet, it's almost as hard as losing a friend.

Sorry to mention this Ojibwaywmn, but be prepared for something like this, if they are an animal lover.

Talking Found!!

Thank heavens!!! Rufus the dog was at the Humane Society. Someone found him about six blocks away from the house that same night, and turned him in. I was worried he would be hurt, and prayed for his safe return last night. Sorry people....I am just a huge dog lover and wouldn't have forgiven myself if anything happened to him. He is at home now, safe and sound. :D

I told her what happened with Rufus, and she had a simliar incident with him quite sometime ago. Good thing I found him before she got home, her reaction may have been quite different. Anyways, thanks for letting me rant about this little drama. Cheers!
