Cicadas
We have had them now for a couple weeks... this last one being the busiest. You can sweep them up in front of our garage.... ewww
When we go out the doors it sounds like a freaky Japanese sci-fi movie from the 50's. Anyone else have any 17 yr. wonder stories?

What is the big deal about Cicadas?? We have them every year here. Not quite as many as you are having now, but still have them. It's not spring without opening the window and listening to them sing. And let's not forget as a kid finding their shells stuck everywhere and collecting them.

Thing about these cicadas is they are the 17 yr. cicadas. They come out every 17yrs. breed... then the offspring go underground and feed for 17yrs. Just like clockwork.
There are different kind of cicadas that have different cycles. And yeahhhhhhh.. we are findin the nasty carcasses all over.. and people are buyin em (fishermen) EWWW!!

lol I remember my dad talking about them and showing them to me when I was younger. He was like "Yeah they stay underground anywhere from 10-15 years.... So this is as old as you are". I was so amazed. Thought they were kinda cool. Looooooooove listening to them and whipperwills at night.

when my mom first moved down here she was riding the bus and she had on a skirt and one had gotten up under her skirt and she felt it while she was sitting ont he crowded bus.... and it started to crawl up her leg...well she got off the bus and ran home. when she got home she jumped outta her skirt shook it and it fell out. she then went and got the broom and beat it into the carpet and left it there for my dad to clean it up...
