Correct style of chicken dancing...could somebody please explain?

As we all know chicken dancing has made a huge impact on powwows. So much that the style has made it's way to the southern states and now everyone seems to have a chicken bustle stashed in the backseat in case of a special. I'm afraid to think of how the judges really judge this dance when so many chicken dancers have so many different styles, as previously posted.

So if it was your choice of wording the 'What to look for in chicken dance' section of the powwow's program, what would you say? What are the rules?

wow, my experience with this forum is, that a question like this could lead into a lot of roads going many different ways.

I'd think that as long as each dancer has a good interpretation of the male courting the female chicken and what not, what the heck. Colorful, yet humble, energetic, but not phony.

This will be interesting; keep in mind there are many that will argue their own tribal style to be of the "correct" manner of dancing.

So, let's see what unfolds!

So I'm assuming there's no right or wrong moves for this? I've been told you're supposed to be smooth but quick but most importantly smooth, but you see all these guys run and bounce around like chickens with their heads cut off and they end up placing! LOL! And I'm like, whaaa? I don't know. (I guess this is where politics plays in every part of life).
This subject is probably played out by now but I haven't been on here for a while!

Will go in every which way.....More then likely a actual, reliable, factual answer will not surface....I would suggest to anyone for that matter to sit and talk to a knowledgable person....Wouldn't hurt to follow a protocol or two....

All this "chatter" here in 4 out of 10 cases carries water, but its hit or miss at best....Sort of like Battleship....

Now what would probably get the ball rolling for some....would be a visit to Blackfoot Country....Realize as well that if info comes to fast it just may smack you right upside your head....So be patient....Longevity is what your looking for....

Usually when I go to KFC and I burn my mouth with hot chicken, I do a good interpretation....other than that, I move like Jackie Chan in Rush Hour.....

Well lets see actually the Chicken dance originated from the Blackfeet people of Montana and Cananda. Its a fast pace dance that involves alot of footwork, and your actually suppose to be mimicing the praire chicken during the time of mating season. Its a dance for the men to attrack a mate. if you ever see the praire chicken dance during this theres alot of jerking of the head and movement of the feet. so if you ever come up to blackfeet country you will find the best chicken dancers there are! so yea!!

All I know is chicken dance is the sh*t. I always like to watch a good dancer. I'm from the northwoods, and don't remember the last time I saw a prairie chicken running through the trees. So obviously we don't have many chicken dancers around. Just thought I would respond anyway. Later!!
