My Daughter...
Hey All,
My daughter is a Northern Traditional Buckskin dancer. She loves every second of it, and I love watching her... I've spent at least $2,000 on her current regalia, and she's growing like a weed! lol She loves to dance Northern Traditional, because she says "Daddy, that's where my heart is." How else could she have put it? She wants to venture into jingle, (she has danced it before, but she got hooked on Tradish Northern Buckskin.) and even shawl I'm sure, but she's just in love with the Northern style. Her dress goes to her ankles, and the yoke of her dress hangs to her waist, and the frenge goes down to her ankles when she is dancing... It is a smoked color buckskin that is covered in sequine work, bead work, quill work, and elk teeth. She carries a genuine 4 eagle feather fan, that has frenge also down to her ankle from it's base. She carries a purse/medicine bag that her grandmother's mother made when she was Nikki's age. :) She asks me at pow wows "Am I dancing differently than all the other girls?" I said... "Well.... No, I don't think so." She made a point to sway harder and even more smoother and look more stoic than she had ever in her life... Now she wins, or is second runner up in all competitions. :) I'm poud of her... Your Friend:

lol - Hey, Otoe Hott Mama -
How about telling me what the ojbect of Southern Traditional dancing is... lol I know Northern Tradish it's to keep your posture and sway the hardest, and most graceful. I only see Southern Traditional women dancing out there walking to the beat of the drum. ;) JK - I want to see your out fits. Nikki wants to dance Northern Cloth. Working on getter her out fit made for a pow wow in Sept. She's going to dance Northern still at GON, though. - Robby

hey northern tradish is about bouncing around in one spot and whippin that fringe.. right?
Southern is about getting that fringe to pop and being in step w/the drum while looking graceful and not too bouncy. You also want to get down on those honor beats while keeping your fringe poppin.

Northern or Southern buckskin
It appears if NdN from the South, Mid america is alot different war dancing style done from the west style or (northern). As for Northwest, it is a style (orally taught among our people) that is sung with songs that perpetuate. The straight and cirlce style war dancing called today with fringes or other buckskin and bead working. Primarilarly, circle dancing is done in a ceremonial style of dancing do to dress style (buckskin); due to the many different style of dancing done among our people's way of life. Here in the northwest country. The women imitate the origins of life in their bead work and stance in how the spirit interprets to what they wear...in visioned through dreams or spiritual quests. Northern is not war danced in one place (the earth moves in a appeared cycle to left).

Hott Mama Otoe Chick -
lol - Yeah... Riiight. They don't whip their fringe. They make it sway. VERY graceful if you ask me... lol And - They do too move around the arena... lol It's just their shyt is heavier than y'alls... They move slower. ;) The have to bounce faster because they usually dance to a Northern song... Unlike those slo0ow azzed Southern songs. ;) lol But I bet you're a wonderful dancer... In the sak and out of the sak... But I'd love to know how you do better in one than the other. ;) - Robby

I thought births and babies are considered to be very special and "heaven's creatures"? why can't someone be out there in the powwow arena w/child? thats wierd. |

OK FINALLY i GET TO POST, LOL
Over here in my parts, when we dance while holding things its sorta like offering your gifts to the Creator, Thus when your dancing while pregnant its equal to holding your child, your offering it to the Creator. I guess its sorta like, when your dancing you dont want to take any chances by some sort of *misunderstanding* some people belive that it might create problems with the pregnancy. Same with holding small children in the arbour we are supposed to walk them by the hand instead. Thats what the teaching is here anyways. It didnt have anything to do with shame or embarassment or anything like that. Hope that made sense, lol.

Same here... eagleclan. Ouch! Dancing fancy shawl until the last month. Is that kinda risky?
I'm beading my Northern Traditional Top. I should be done by August.. or even sooner. My goal is to have it done by June.

:o Well for the past year and some change I've been dancing Northern Traditional. And just recently started placing. So I must be getting better. I use to dance fancy but injured my knee and was scared to hurt it again. Although I love Northern Traditional I also miss dancing fancy.
