Learning the songs before the dance-101?

I want to learn the different parts of a song, what to listen for ect., what kind of song does a women dance to, for Southern Buckskin/or cloth?

If you contest it will take a while to learn songs, etc. I'd suggest just enjoy dancing first then as you gain more confidence, then put your name down on the roster! There are northern songs & southern songs, depends on where your raised. For Southern Buckskin, the drum picks the song as well as cloth. I grew up in a family of singers, composers, etc. I thought I knew alot of songs but some guys can pull out some old ones WE don't even know! Good Luck in your contesting!

Thanks for your help, I do dance for the enjoyment of it right now, but I would like to be good enough to recognize what kind of song I'm hearing. I know northern and southern sound different, but are the also arranged differently? I guess everything comes with experience, I'll just have to keep listening.
