Talking purse frames

Hi all, My 15-year old is bound and determined to learn to make a coin purse. Does anyone know where we can get a purse frame? or do they even use one? does anyone have any tips to get us started? let me know please.

I'm pretty sure that Fire Mountain Gems sells them and I thought I saw some at Joannes Fabrics, but I could be wrong. Check local bead stores too cause making beaded bags and coin purses is a very popular thing right now.

Another common method for making a coin purse does not require a frame at all. You could simply sew a small zipper into one side of the bag. A leather thong for carrying can be threaded through the zipper pull.

They can be made either with or without a frame. My mom has made me several. I have one with a frame top and chain, I have one made with a small zipper that goes around on 3 sides, 1 with a sipper on the top only, and I even have one that ha velcro on the flap that folds over.

You can try www.sunshinecrafts.com and type in purse. I didn't see any small coin purses but I did see purse forms and handles.....

Make the purse first, decide on round or square. I like my mom's design. She makes two of the same size beaded medalions(lined), about 3.5 to 4 inches across. Then she makes the sides with leather about1-1.5 inches in width, and adds the zipper into the side. Then she sews the pieces together of course, then edges the whole coin purse, with beads.

Frames???? I never heard of them, but there are SO MANY ways to make coin purses. The simplest is to make a round or oval shape and fold it like a taco. Then you attach a buckskin strip (like 1 inch or so) across the fold, leaving room for the zipper. Or some just have a zipper across the whole opening.

The other way I've seen is to make two sides, then attach the strip and zipper the same, as WW explained above.

The local Walmart here has frames. Also a great needlework place www.herschnerrs.com has them. They have all kinds of "stitchy" things. I've dealt with them off and on for years and never had a problem with them at all. If you are into different kinds of needlework from embroidery to knitting, you should check them out.
