Semi-beaded mocs

Hi everyone,
I am new to beading and was wondering how to go about properly semi- beading a pair of mocs.

Also, what size of beads should I use?

Thanks,
OA_Dancer05

Semi-beaded? Do you mean partially beaded?

If so, you just make a design that doesn't cover the entire upper. In my experience there are three basic variations, with differing quantities of beadwork: A motif right over the top of the foot; beadwork over the top of the foot and a band around the edge; or completely beaded over the front of the foot but nothing over the back.

Look around you'll see them. And just about any museum collection catalog has pictures old pairs. Please, remember don't copy family designs.

As for size, I'd go no larger than 11/0's. In my opinion smaller is better. Big beads can look cheesy.

Aw, come on. Size 10's are perfectly fine, especially for a beginner. The geometric set in my gallery is done is size 10's.

You can call me cheesy, but not my beadwork.

I would say there is a lot of work to be done to do this project right. Just put beads on the toes? That to be honest does not sound good?

1. Make and design the mocs properly. There are tribal variations etc.

2. Don't just put beads on put them on properly with the correct designs and done right. Not as hard as you think.

3. I don't use 10/0 beads either. I prefer 12/0 or smaller. Sorry just my preference.

If you want a couple of mocassin articles send me a private message and I can perhaps send them to you or your parents snail mail.

No offense taken. Granted some bigger bead stuff looks fakey, as does some smaller bead stuff done by non-natives.

But I know lots of peole that use size 10's to get it done!! I think about getting it done while working 45+ hours a week at my job.

I do hear ya' there. I have been beading a yoke in 13/0's for 3 yrs. Right now, I'd use dyed truck tires, LOL.

I think I have the book you are talking about and have looked at the beaded pieces many times(and will some more).

I guess what I meant was not beading the whole moccasin, but just the top and part of the sides.
