Learning to bead

I need to know how I can make the knot ,at the begining and end, go away.......

I know I can cut it down but, the knot is still there. This is one I was working on.

I couldnt tell if that was loom or other, but what I would do is work the tail back into the work or clip it just close enough and flame it very carefully so not to burn your piece, sorry to be so vague but I could not tell very well but hope I helped abit.

I totally agree with Eagle Plumes as to weaving back through the work. The strength of a knot is based on how many bites it has (or turns) If you go back through the work and make at least 3 turns plus the friction of just going through the beads, it will actually be stronger than any knot you can tie, and will not come untied.

I do however disagree with flamming...that just eeks me out getting fire that close to my work.

If you are backing the beadwork with leather or cloth just leave as is and tuck it under between the material and beadwork, that's easy.

If you can post a clearer pic that would be great. Did you lay your camera lens on a piece of frybread?

Is that flat peyote? If so, try not to start your piece with a knot. Instead tie a good long length of your thread to a large bead, but don't knot it. Then start your piece and use that large bead as a block so your first line does'nt fall off the thread. Later after you have quite a few lines done or it's finished, take off that large anchor bead and then work the thread back through the beadwork.. do the same with the end of your thread when you've put on your last line.

The working the tread back threw is what I do when I finishing off my own work, the flaming is what I sometimes have to do when pieces are brought to me to "fix" that are almost a here redo it! and they dont realy want to so I do what I can to make it work, but I dont always put teh flame directly to it just the heat from the flame, but as you say Bead MAn its not a very good thing to do if one is not extremly carefull you will be cooking your peice for dinner!! lol

Thank you all for your imputs. It's not loom....I don't know how to loom. I learned on my own. I string however many beads I want on the first row then I add a bead, run it through the last bead on the first row, and back through the bead I added for the start of the second row. Then do the same thing for the rest of the rows. If that makes any sence. I'm REALLY young and have noone around from my tribe to help me with this stuff. I do have my family but, there not into the whole heritage thing. My dad only goes to the one powwow he does for money. And, I only get to go to two maybe three a year. So, I'm learning slowly.

As for flamming the string. It's bad to give me a lighter to light something and not expect me to set it all on fire. lol

Making knots go away

I've been beading for a while now and here's how I make my knots go away-on or off loom. (even though some people think knots is a bad word). I try to make the knot about a beads width away from whre my needle is goin to go in the next bead. I seal it with clear nail polish then quick pull it into the next bead, then weave into a few beads or whatever the next astep is. This way, the knot is hidden in a bead and "glued" in the bead too. I haven't had one come undone yet. Hope this helps.
