in search of beading patterns
Where can I locate some free beading patterns online?
For barretts or rosettes, loom or peyote stiching... A friend that is incarcerated is in need of some patterns and my local bead store only had one book available... Thanks to any suggestions.

Try:
http://www.firemountaingems.com/bead...erns&kwsearch= or http://home.flash.net/~mjtafoya/patterns.htm Personally, I like using counted crossstitch patterns for loom work: each X is a bead (11/0 beads are 17 to the inch so keep that in mind when you are looking at patterns). Most of what I do is double-needle applique and that just takes drawing something on the backing material and then filling in the parts of the drawing (a little like paint-by-number). Inspiration comes from such diverse places as coloring books, online searches (google images for mandalas, for instance) and even the Book of Kells. Hope this helps. ~b2w |

I collect photos of historic and modern beadwork. Not for copying but for inspiration. I also find pictures of leaves, landscapes, snowflakes, and such can lead to good ideas. And a kalidascope is a great inspiration. Hope this helps.

Computer graphics even make some nice beadwork patterns. You can even alter them slightly to make an even better pattern from them.

I'm always cutting out graphics from flour bags, other packaging (found a great design on our school paper towels), magazines, coloring books, even newspapers.
If I find something I can't cut up, I just scan it or make a copy - either on the copy machine, or trace it on a window, or the TV screen if it's at night. |

Don't forget..,
You probrably can create or design your own. A powwow.comer presented on this site a free beadwork design program. It has lazy, applique, loom, & I believe peyote stich patterns. You can pick the bead size, # of lanes, apply just about any color. I think it kicks asp. Try that as well. It really helps with color combinations. Testing different backgrounds & accent color to get the right look. $0.02 worth

oVERLY sEnsitive?
Hi yall,
Does anyone else worry about coming up with a design that that isn't consistent with their traditional designs, or are too similar in style to that of other people's tribes? How have you been able to balance representing your people and the desire to be creative? Maybe i'm overly sensitive, but I don't want to misrepresent myself or offend someone. |
