crown backing

just wondering what everyone uses to use on the backing of a crown?

I just was curious, i seen lots of people just use cotton, i havent tried that yet, just wondering how you would keep it from unraveling?

thanks for any ideas.

you can fold the edges under and then sew the layers together with a bead edging.. that's how it keeps from unravelling. also fray check, but folding under does alot more good. I used cotton because it's cooler when it's hot and dries faster when you sweat.

I use a scarf that matches my outfit. Before I am going to sew it on I heat and bond it. And then I fold it in and it doesn't fray or ravel on me. I use the scarf because it easier to clean and it breathable.

Am glad to see this one on here... have been working on a crown for my wife for about a year now, but recently picked it up to get serious about it getting done, in addition to the backing, what do you use to join the back of the crown, I left a space so she would be able to still wear a hair barrett... any suggestions?

Walela49... what do you use to finish your crowns up?

It will just be hot and sweat will stain it and make it hard Eagle Plumes. I know it used to be used alot but most people who do it now tend to regret that decision later.

I use tension bandage or elastic. I once had tension bandage but my dad put my crown on and stretched it out. So I when I was out on the dance floor and my crown dropped and covered my eyes. So I had to push it up while I was still dancing but hey that must have been a good move I took first lol!! And right now I have an big elastic on the back so it stretches and my barrete and feather can cover it up!!! :star:

crown

hey i was wondering...how do you know how big or small to make a crown. I'm asking because i was asked today to make one. I don't even know how to start or where to start?! Lets start with question one, size, shape do you trace a pattern from some where or how , how , how do you start.... I need some direction on how to make this ......i always admired gals crowns, but now this crown is for a little girl who is 2nd princess attendant well not so little she's 9yrs old. (Sigh) Hope some one can give me a step by step, i'm lost

All that should be decided after measuring the head... first you want to know how big around it must be, then how high you want it to be off her head and where the front is going to stop on either side of her face, once you get those measurements then you figure out what shape you want in front...
