I am needing to get some moccasins/leggings made for my daughter (6 Yrs old) Wears about a size 2 1/2 in kids shoes. I need an idea for what to put on them. I am very open to suggestions for colors, patterns, how big I should make them because her feet are forever growing...lol Thanx?

do you know any of your own tribal specific designs or patterns? Or you could go to the gallery, type in keyword moccasins and see what others have done, that's one way of generating ideas...just so long as you dont steal someone's pattern. But it can give you a good idea of how you would like them to look. I'd make them only a half a size bigger than what she's wearing cause now that she's six, her feet should be slowing down in the growth just a little. Which means she probably could wear them for another year. But if you arent looking into having all that work done for only a year, I would suggest just edge beading the top and tongue nad makeing a rosette for the toe or strip around the bottom with it.

Another "kid mocs" idea for you... If you want a more extensive beadwork, and you don't want to risk trashing it when she outgrows the mocs, try doing the beadwork an another fabric, and then applicae (sp?) it to the uppers afterward... Then, when they are outgrown, you can just rip out the old attaching threads, and restitch these "beaded uppers" onto the new ones!

I did several this way for adult friends, and here the risk was not outgrowing, but when the moccs wear out, you can put the beadwork back onto the next pair!

I am glad that their people with ideas out there, because I just can't think these days. I think my brain is on pause right now, until it has to be used again. I just got through with another semester here at NSU. LOL.... I have been trying to think and just can't. I wouldn't want to take anyone's design, that would be not good on the conscience. As for doing the applique that is a good idea, what type of backing to use for it, like felt, leather what????? I don't know any specific designs for my tribe, just that they do the fringes on the leggings and the color of the leather is like a mustard yellow(Comanche) I am pretty sure they don't use extensive beadwork unless that is what they want specifically.. Anyone out there know more be sure to correct me...Feel free to let your ideas be mine... jk.

This is a good idea; it'll keep you from having to make all new sets of beadwork.

another way is to make the tops of your moccs in two peices so that the part that goes around the foot is not beaded, and the top of the foot part is beaded that way when the feet grow you just replace the sole and back half but u dont have to do more beading ;) Thast how Im doing my nephews moccs'
