How do you bead crowns?

some folks like to use canvas in layers same as with leggings, or baby lap pad..I've used velvet and fun foam... but before you even start it, you have to know how big to make it and what shape as well. Then draw out your pattern to be beaded.

I use felt and white paper. I know some peeps use crib lining, too. I just use whatever's available.

Best to draw your design out, and use colored pencils to see what it will look like before you bead just to give you an idea.

OH NO!! you could be selling those on ebay!! ROFLMAO!! Just kidding, but having owned records all my life and even taking care of them well, they just break down really easily.. but I suppose most anything that's a paper product would... You know though.. it's not too terribly expensive to buy large sheets of plastic (usually used to make painting stencils) and that would be good for the inbetween layer. On my smaller items and rosettes I just trim up yogurt lids and sandwich that between the beadwork and the leather. But sometimes I do use card stock behind the leather just to keep the back looking smooth.

actually I do have a tutorial done on my forum to do crowns, but it is a child sized one and also it's a haudenosaunee crown which means it is covered with velvet and then beaded..not a fully beaded crown like you are wanting.

I use extra long card stock and cereal boxes in between for sturdiness. I used to use leather, but now I just use any kind of cloth material (i like the floral more) for the backing.

I usually use uhpolstery vinyl and brown shipping paper!

I will draw out my design and color it. I try to get the drawning to be as close to the real size of the crown so that it will have a realistic look.

re: crowns

I did one for my daughter and I used the crib lap pad..but I also used size 13 cuts so I needed something that will be easy to bead on and yet hold the beads well. I usually draw out the designs(animals) can't draw them too well and the others..I do as I go along. But I try to balance it all out..like what is on one side is also on the other side. Oh and I also entertwined quills..within the bead work? You also need to know the size and shape of the crown, mine was half circles..I thought it was pretty cool..I used straight stitching and lazy stitch. Also, used that stuff from hobby/lobby a hard plastic..to keep it sturdy. I recommend that b/c my daughter won another title? The person who made the crown used a very hard plastic? Well, guess what when it got really cold it a mn. pow wow? It broke? So, I would use that I think it was template or something but it is flexible and so far it didn't break. That was the only one I made..but it was fun doing it..it did take me awhile though, but once I completed the designs it was easy to do the rest. Hope that helps, oh yeah and I used rhinestones for the edging and backed it with a leather..that even if you sweat would handle it.. LOL..

I've actually been asked to do a crown for someone special so I think the next project i should do is photograph as I go and post it here as another tutorial since we get so many requests for crown construction.

I would like to know how much do you all charge for crowns?

That looks like that 50 weight Pellon...is it? I've found this weight and 60 at Wal-Mart & Hancock's. I like the sturdiness and thickness of these. I'm using the 50 for my 1st pair of beaded leggings. Then I'm going to put the beading on to a quilted batting. Wish me luck.
