Question Does Size matter?

My friend is eventually going to start beading his Traditional outfit. .basically Cuffs, arm bands, Neck tie, knee bands. .etc etc. and was wondering what size beads to use. I reccomended 11/0 but I was wondering what every one else would suggest ...
What do you think about bigger beads such as size 5, or 8? The most I know is that they would be used for older style outfits, Could they be used for more contemporary?
May the Beads be with you. ..

11/0s are the largest you should use.
What do you mean 5/0 and 8/0 pony beads on older style outfits?
Good older stuff uses smaller beads....down to 16/0 cuts. Pony beads are like before 1860, two color stuff, blue and white... lazy stitch in cheyenne and sioux stuff using old italian colors were similar to 11/0.

10's look like boulders to me anymore! I have used some 12's and they look huge! I would'nt go any bigger than that if I want detail.

Yep...sz. 11 works well! And remember....u can use different sizes too...well not drasticly....but u can use 12 for the intricate designs and 11 for geoz and bckgrd....or vice versa with 11z then bckgrnd in 10...I do it all the time...PrAcTiCe MaKeZ PeRfEcT!

Good luck w/ur project!

:rofl2: heyyyyyy think we could start a new trend?? :D

I have some old 18's. Had thin enough thread. And needles but I can't find the same needles again!:Cry :Cry Really short and so that makes em thicker, still went thru the 18's fine.
I got em from a trader and they were wrapped in gold foil. I had thought black wolf traders but couldn't find em.. :(

I guess 00 nymo will work. They were in my grandma's old treadle sewing machine cabinet. Only three colors , black white and old yellow. Applique the only way I see to use them.

Have him use 10's. Especially if he's a beginning beader. You can still do some awesome designs and it won't take as long.

He could use the bigger beads for accent things, and maybe smaller beads on small items.
