I don't think I have ever seen northern women wearing cuffs.. that does'nt mean that they don't... but other than Jingle dancers, I have'nt seen any myself....Oh, and iroquois women sometimes wear cuffs of velvet that are beaded....

or even an idea on how to get a pattern for them? I just need to know how to cut them out......

Finally! I can help someone instead of just asking questions, yay!

MissTlingit, you can cut out whatever style of cuff fits your wrist. I like the ones with th "point" that comes over the top of the hand, but you have to make sure it is very flexible or it will poke your hand! But it is a pretty style.

The jingle dancers up here like to wear these and I have seen dozens and dozens of styles around the Dakotas. Basically, just figure out how you want your cuff to look, you can try out several different styles by making paper patterns first. I am doing exactly that later this afternoon!

The designs are usually personal, though. You can find examples of Northern Plains beadwork designs by just doing a search on the internet under "Northern Plains beadwork designs" etc... There are some good books out there, too, I have seen several books that have pretty detailed traditional designs.

But I wouldnt use them just like they are in a book or website, because it is probebly someone elses dream or power in it, you want your own. So use them for guidlines is all.
